What Happened to Dongfang Huai Zhu and Wangquan Hong Ye on Love in Pavilion Ending?

The Black Grief Tree and the Grief Tree in Tushan were connected, which made the Black Fox stronger. Wangquan Hong Ye and Dongfang Huai Zhu traveled to Tushan and met with Tushan Ya Ya.

They planned to collaborate with Tushan to save all living beings. They hoped that Tushan would guide them on how to use the Twilight Mist Flower within Dongfang Huai Zhu’s body to suppress the Black Fox.

The Twilight Mist Flower has the power to purify vengeful spirits. Dongfang Huai Zhu must use it on the Grief Tree to cleanse the evil force of the Black Grief Tree.

However, as she uses it, Wangquan Hong Ye must launch an attack on the Black Fox from outside the Boundary. This means they will be separated, and this battle could very well become their final confrontation. The outcome remains uncertain, and the worst possible fate could await either of them.

A day before the battle, the Mask Group shared a meal together. Everyone except Dongfang Huai Zhu and Wangquan Hong Ye became drunk, but Dongfang Huai Zhu, ever perceptive, sensed that Wangquan Hong Ye had already resolved to face the battle beyond the Boundary alone.

Yet, he would not remain alone for long. The next day, as he was stopped by the gatekeeper at Tianmen Pass, the rest of the group arrived, including their newest member, Zhang Zheng. Together, the nine of them flew through a crack in the gate, entering the realm beyond the Boundary to bring an end to the Eternal Night.

Meanwhile, Dongfang Huai Zhu heads to Tushan on her own. There, Tushan Ya Ya is already waiting. The Black Fox, sensing the presence of the Mask Group, sneers at their efforts. She believes Wangquan Hong Ye and the others still don’t understand that fate cannot be rewritten.

The group arrives in utter darkness, stunned by the sight of the true Black Grief Tree. Yang Yi Tan detects a hidden barrier. When he breaks through it, they find Wangquan Su Zhou’s body. In his hand is the real Wangquan Sword. Wangquan Hong Ye watches as his father fades away in the sky. As soon as he vanishes, the Black Fox emerges.

Behind the barrier, the group is overwhelmed by a relentless onslaught of evil spirits. Unaware of the danger lurking within, they do not realize that the Black Fox has already infiltrated Yang Yi Tan’s third eye. She takes control of his body and shatters the barrier, releasing a powerful blast that scatters the group in all directions.

In the aftermath, Wangquan Hong Ye is left to face the Black Fox alone, while the others, separated and vulnerable, are drawn into their own desperate battles that each end in tragedy.

Dongfang Huai Zhu knows nothing of the battle unfolding beyond the Boundary. She waits in silence, aware that the Black Fox will soon attempt to draw power from Tushan’s Grief Tree. When the tree begins to wither, she releases the Twilight Mist Flower and purifies the vengeful spirits.

The purified energy flows into Wangquan Hong Ye’s formation, strengthening it. By igniting the Unparalleled Sword with his life force, he conjures a massive blade that shatters the Black Grief Tree and obliterates the Black Fox. The effort comes at a heavy cost.

Wangquan Hong Ye’s energy is completely depleted, and the use of the Twilight Mist Flower drains Dongfang Huai Zhu’s spiritual power, leaving her weak and exhausted. She intends to go and find Wangquan Hong Ye, but before she can leave, a guard arrives with urgent news from Dongfang Qin Lan that Dongfang Chu Ri is critically ill.

Dongfang Huai Zhu returns to the Divine Fire Villa, but her father is nowhere to be found. Instead, she discovers that Jin Ren Feng has taken control of the villa and has placed Dongfang Qin Lan under arrest.

From their maid, Yun Feng, the Dongfang sisters learn the horrifying truth. While she was away, Jin Ren Feng has killed their father to seize his spiritual blood. With this newfound power, he can now wield the Pure Yang Fire. However, Dongfang Huai Zhu, whose spiritual strength is already depleted, is no longer able to stand against him.

To protect the Dongfang bloodline, Dongfang Huai Zhu decides to send her sister away from the manor. She uses a talisman given by Li Qu Zhou that can transport a person more than three miles away. Before parting, Huai Zhu urges Dongfang Qin Lan to stay safe and reminds her that her happiness matters more than seeking revenge.

After some time, Jin Ren Feng discovers that Qin Lan has disappeared and orders the guards to search for her. They eventually corner her at the edge of a cliff, but rather than surrender, Dongfang Qin Lan chooses to jump. Fearing punishment, the guards pretend they never saw her.

After the battle against the Black Fox, Wangquan Hong Ye returned to the Wangquan Manor. The physician informed him that he had lost the will to live due to severe physical and mental trauma. The despair and regret in his heart had caused him to lose his sword spirit.

Upon learning that his messenger couldn’t see Dongfang Huai Zhu, Wangquan Hong Ye decided to go to the Divine Fire Villa. He arrived just in time to see Dongfang Huai Zhu almost collapsing from Jin Ren Feng’s attack.

At first, Dongfang Huai Zhu barely recognized him, as Wangquan Hong Ye had aged significantly, with gray hair now replacing his once-black locks. Jin Ren Feng attacked him with Pure Yang Fire, but Wangquan Hong Ye dismissed it with a strike of his sword, which was destroyed in the process.

When Jin Ren Feng generate a bigger Pure Yang Fire and attacked them for the second, Dongfang Huai Zhu bravely shielded the dazed Wangquan Hong Ye from the flames. Suddenly, the Wangquan Sword appeared to protect them both. Not long after, the four guardians of the Wangquan Manor and Manager Fei arrived on the scene.

Jin Ren Feng was prepared to fight, but when he saw that the entire army of disciples from Wangquan Manor had arrived, he hesitated.

Manager Fei explained that he was not there to engage in battle. Instead, he was there to discuss a marriage between Jin Ren Feng’s cousin, Miss Chu Ri Huai Zhu, and Wangquan Hong Ye. She was to marry into the manor as a concubine. Dongfang Huai Zhu’s relieved smile quickly faded at these words.

Manager Fei further stated that as long as Jin Ren Feng agreed to the marriage, they would overlook to awhatever lies Jin Ren Feng tells about Chu Ri’s death or the disappearance of the Dongfang daughters. This meant they were relinquishing control of Divine Fire Villa to Jin Ren Feng in exchange for her life.

Appointing Dongfang Huai Zhu as a concubine was their last resort. By marrying her in this way, Wangquan Hong Ye could take her away as soon as possible. Had she been married as a main wife, it would have taken much longer and involved many complicated matters that were not feasible at the time.

Still, Wangquan Hong Ye felt deep guilt over the decision, knowing it was unfair to Dongfang Huai Zhu and that making her a concubine seemed to diminish her status. On the wedding day, Manager Fei explained everything to Dongfang Huai Zhu and assured her that although the marriage was officially as a concubine, the ceremony had been arranged to mirror that of a main wife, and she would hold a status no different from one.

Two souls who love each other at last reunite. Yet both are shattered by grief. The wedding, meant to be joyful, feels like a funeral. Afterward, they avoid each other, their hearts weighed down by sorrow. Dongfang Huai Zhu and Wangquan Hong Ye continue to look for Dongfang Qin Lan, but they never found her.

Dongfang Huai Zhu discovers Jin Ren Feng’s vulnerability and strikes. But he wears hidden armor. She nearly dies under his flames, but Wangquan Hong Ye steps in, wounding Jin Ren Feng and forcing him to flee.

With the deaths of their young elites, the Yiqi Alliance grows weaker as demons run wild and resentment toward Wangquan Hong Ye deepens. He becomes a lone warrior haunted by his failures, especially knowing that the Black Fox was never truly destroyed and the Black Grief Tree has returned, while his sword spirit remains lost.

Unable to bear seeing him this way, Dongfang Huai Zhu reaches out, and they finally spend a night together. Later, as they walk through a bamboo grove, she tells him she is pregnant and that in eight months he will become a father. This news rekindles a spark within him, and slowly, he begins to heal.

Contrary to Wangquan Hong Ye, Dongfang Huai Zhu hides the fact that her life is fading. When Jin Ren Feng struck her, her lifespan was greatly shortened. She makes a plan for her family’s future and, in front of the members of the Yiqi Alliance, declares that her child will inherit her spiritual blood.

Using the Wangquan technique, they can awaken the child’s innate sword spirit. A child who carries the talents of both clans and wields the strongest sword would become the next warrior of the Yiqi Alliance.

With Dongfang Huai Zhu’s support, Wangquan Hong Ye proposes a truce between humans and demons and suggests that Tushan lead the demon realm. Although Tushan Ya Ya refuses the full proposal, she promises that the demons under her care will not harm humans.

It is not a complete victory, but Wangquan Hong Ye expected as much. Later, Dongfang Huai Zhu meets Tushan Ya Ya beneath the Grief Tree, where she asks why Dongfang Huai Zhu would sacrifice her life for this child. Her answer is simple: Wangquan Hong Ye has lost too many and sacrificed everything, yet the heavens remain cruel. This child will give him a reason to carry on.

Moved by her unwavering love, Tushan Ya Ya agrees to help. In the end, Tushan agreed to collaborate with Wangquan Hong Ye to establish boundaries between humans and demons. The war has ended, resulting in a temporary peace.

Dongfang Huai Zhu and Wangquan Hong Ye lived a peaceful life together, but the dreaded moment eventually arrived when Huai Zhu gave birth to their son. Shortly after the birth, she began coughing up blood and soon lost consciousness.

When she awakened, she revealed to her husband that her lifespan had been significantly shortened during the attack by Jin Ren Feng. Knowing her time was limited, Dongfang Huai Zhu then shared her one last wish with him.

Dongfang Huai Zhu wanted to recreate the moment she and Wangquan Hong Ye first met. After much effort, she woke up and put on the same green dress she had worn back then. When she turned around, she saw Wangquan Hong Ye standing there in white, wearing the mask she had once made for him. Overcome with joy, she ran into his arms, longing for him to return to the man he used to be.

Before taking her final breath, Dongfang Huai Zhu asked Wangquan Hong Ye whether their child had ever wanted to leave, and she pleaded with him to let the child go. She also shared her hope that he would never give up on finding his sword spirit and that he would still become a legendary hero. As she slipped away forever, tears streamed down Wangquan Hong Ye’s face.

Years later, the families of the Yiqi Alliance began to conserve their strength by focusing on cultivation and educating talents. Their goal was to accumulate power before making their next move. The Zhang family appointed a new individual to wield Zhang Zheng’s dark sword.

At the end, Deng Qi Yue’s daughter, Deng Jiu Ru, emerged as the clan master, and despite her young age, she earned the respect of all the clan members. Meanwhile, Wangquan Hong Ye played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Wangquan Clan, leading the Yiqi Alliance back to its former glory and restoring order between the human and demon realms.

Additionally, the Wangquan Manor welcomed its young master, Wangquan Fu Gui.

What Heppened to the Mask Goup Members on Love in Pavilion Ending?

Wangquan Zui, Yang Yi Tan, and Deng Qi Yue

During the final battle, Wangquan Zui and Yang Yi Tan had just met Deng Qi Yue near the Black Grief Tree when Yang Yi Tan was suddenly possessed by demonic energy and turned on them. As Wangquan Zui rushed to help Deng Qi Yue, the same energy seeped into her mind and pulled her into an illusion.

In that dream, she lived happily with Yang Yi Tan. They had a sweet little son, and her father was still alive. It felt real. But her awareness returned. She turned to Yang Yi Tan and asked when he had fallen under the Black Fox’s control.

He answered that it began the moment he killed Yang Huan Zhou to save her. Wangquan Zui’s heart ached as the Black Fox whispered that Yang Yi Tan had sacrificed himself over and over again just to protect her.

As the Black Fox reached for her, Deng Qi Yue struck from behind. But he wasn’t strong enough to face the Black Fox. He was defeated and, as he lay dying, the Black Fox took over Deng Qi Yue’s body and forced him to attack Wangquan Zui.

Yang Yi Tan stopped his sword and, in the end, kill Deng Qi Yue. Soon after, the same sword pierced through Wangquan Zui. Yang Ti Tan saw the blood gushing out of her mouth, but he remained indifferent.

Wangquan Zui told her that she wanted to protect everyone, but that she couldn’t do it anymore. However, she could still protect him. With the last of her power, she entered his mind one final time. In the dream, she confessed that she liked him and the Mask Group.

They meant more to her than her own life. She was never afraid of anything, because they had love. And when she showed him the red love knot from Tushan, his true self returned.

Wangquan Hong Ye arrived to find the dazed Yang Yi Tan holding the cold body of his sister. Yang Yi Tan explained that the Black Fox had taken over his clairvoyant eye, allowing her to see all their weaknesses and anticipate their every move.

On the ending, the same energy had begun to corrupt Wangquan Hong Ye’s mind, driving him toward despair and suicidal thought. Before it was too late, Yang Yi Tan destroyed his clairvoyant eye to save him. It cost him his life. In his final moments, Yang Yi Tan told Wangquan Hong Ye that darkness is not the end of the world.

Zhang Zheng and Qing Mu Yuan

During the beginning of catastrophic battle, Qing Mu Yuan was struck by demonic energy. Meanwhile, Zhang Zheng woke up in a frozen, imaginary place. He was alone. Qing Mu Yuan was nowhere to be seen. The Black Fox used Zhang Zheng’s guilt over killing the real Young Master Zhang to possess his mind and order him to kill his friends.

Young Master Zhang’s old jade pendant made Zhang Zheng regain his consciousness. He stood up and fought the Black Fox, who brought the possessed Qing Mu Yuan to him. Zhang Zheng tried desperately to reach her, to pull her back from the darkness, but it was no use. She stabbed him under the Black Fox’s control.

The Black Fox mocked him, saying that if he died by her hand, Qing Mu Yuan’s heart would remain trapped in the shadows forever. With his last strength, Zhang Zheng called to her again, and this time, she woke up.

Qing Mu Yuan panicked when she saw the wound she caused. Zhang Zheng told her he didn’t blame her and asked her not to fall into the Black Fox’s control again.

At the ending, After he died, Qing Mu Yuan used her life force to fight the Black Fox, but she wasn’t strong enough. In the end, she crawled to Zhang Zheng’s body and leaned on him. They couldn’t be together in life, but in death, they were no longer apart.

Li Zi Zai and Li Qu Zhou

When the darkness separated the Mask Group, Li Zi Zai and Li Qu Zhou walked together to find their friends. Li Qu Zhou was walking slower than his brother when he sensed something behind him. Before he could heed his brother’s warning, Li Qu Zhou fell into the Black Fox’s illusion.

The two brothers were trapped in different illusions. Li Zi Zai fought hard against the dark energy and was badly hurt. Li Qu Zhou, meanwhile, was attacked through his fears. The Black Fox took over his mind, and he ended up stabbing his own hands and feet without knowing it.

Li Zi Zai used his talisman to create a protective barrier. Suddenly, Li Qu Zhou remembered that he could use his body to refine Li Zi Zai’s talismans, which would enable them to defeat the Black Fox. In order to save Li Zi Zai and kill the Black Fox, Li Qu Zhou decided to destroy his own spirit. Li Zi Zai smiled at his brother before everything exploded.

Later Li Qu Zhou woke up and saw that a burned talisman. It reminded him of the promise he made to Li Zi Zai to always keep it with him. Only then did Li Qu Zhou realize that it was not a life-saving talisman, but a life-changing one. Realizing that his brother had sacrificed his life for him broke Li Qu Zhou’s heart.

In the end, the brothers were separated by death. After returning home, Li Qu Zhou found a box of talismans that Li Zi Zai had left for him. Li Qu Zhou could no longer walk and had to spend his life in a wheelchair. Like Wangquan Hong Ye, he was also consumed by despair and grief.

What Happened to Jiu Huo and Jin Ren Feng on Love in Pavilion Ending?

Jiu Huo thought he could use Jin Ren Feng as a pawn. He was unaware that he was about to be betrayed, not by Ji Ren Feng, but by the Black Fox.

After connecting two Grief Trees, Jiu Huo was seriously injured and weak, so he no longer had any use for the Black Fox. She revealed to Jin Ren Feng that Jiu Huo is vulnerable to the dragon’s blood. If he could eliminate Jiu Huo, Ji Ren Feng could use his demon core to forge a powerful sword.

Jiu Huo was devastated when he found out that Jia Lan was no longer alive. The only thing left was a new entity called the Black Fox, born from the endless resentment gathered after her death. To protect himself from Ji Ren Feng, Jiu Huo used his power to absorb Ji Ren Feng’s spiritual energy.

Jiu Huo blamed Wangquan Hong Ye for disrupting his plan. If he hadn’t intervened, Jia Lan would’ve returned to his side. But Jiu Huo lost the fight due to his depleted demon power. Still, he laughed.

Before vanishing, he told Wangquan Hong Ye that if his sword could kill him, it might kill the Black Fox. He asked Wangquan Hong Ye to kill her for his sake so Jia Lan could be free. This marked the end of the celestial demon from the Netherworld.

Later, Jin Ren Feng grew desperate to learn the blood-changing technique. Unlike the Dongfang clan, he did not possess spiritual blood and intended to steal it from Dongfang Chu Ri. By torturing Xiao Tan, he forced her to reveal the secret.

Realizing that Dongfang Huai Zhu had discovered his ties to the Black Fox, Jin Ren Feng moved swiftly. While she was away in Tushan, he killed Dongfang Chu Ri and imprisoned Dongfang Qin Lan. He intended to marry both sisters to take their spiritual blood, but Dongfang Huai Zhu helped her sister escape, and Wangquan Hong Ye stopped the forced marriage.

Faced with the army of Wangquan Manor, Jin Ren Feng was forced to retreat.

On the ending, later, Dongfang Huai Zhu discovered that his spiritual blood could not regenerate. Even a small injury could be fatal. She attacked, but it was Wangquan Hong Ye who injured him. The moment his body was pierced, the Divine Fire leaked out, and Jin Ren Feng fled to survive. Without the divine blood, he quickly aged and now depends on life-extending pills to stay alive.

My Two Cents

Honestly, I have nothing more to say. It breaks my heart when I watch Love in Pavilion ending, that Dongfang Huai Zhu and Wangquan Hong Ye couldn’t enjoy the start of their married life. But, looking back, it all makes sense. The grief and regret they carried were too heavy, especially for Wangquan Hong Ye.

While Dongfang Huai Zhu was consumed by her need for revenge against her father’s killer, Wangquan Hong Ye struggled under the weight of his duties and the loss of his sword spirit. Given all this tragedy, I can’t imagine a better ending for their story.

This drama has also made me want to revisit Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact. I’m not sure if I’ll finish it this time or drop it again, but I’ll share my thoughts later. For now, let’s put our grief aside and move on to the next drama.

Thank you so much for visiting and supporting me, dear readers. I’ll see you again in another Drama Review and Ending Explained post. Until then, goodbye!
