Jiu Xuan Ye discovered the truth about his identity. Twelve years ago, Jiu Cang Ming had found him unconscious and amnesiac in the Underground City. Now, Zi Kong revealed the secret Jiu Xuan Ye never knew.
Jiu Xuan Ye was not human, but Man Ying, a black panther demon from the Mystic Panther Clan. His memories and nature had been sealed away by the peerless bracelet. Zi Kong had come from the Carefree Land to bring him home. Their clan had long protected the realms, and now they needed Man Ying. But no one expected that he would forget who he was.
The revelation shattered Jiu Xuan Ye. Zi Kong’s words haunted him, Jiu Xuan Ye kept thinking whether his human friends still accept him if they knew he was a demon. Overcome by fear and doubt, he began to withdraw from everyone, even from Duan Ban Xia. To the others, it seemed he was merely investigating the black demon beast terrorizing the town.
Duan Ban Xia sensed something was wrong. Ever since the demon beast appeared, Jiu Xuan Ye had been distant. On the day of their engagement, he vanished. She and their friends searched the entire town in vain.
When she learned the creature Jiu Xuan Ye was tracking was a black panther, she was stunned. In truth, Duan Ban Xia had known his secret for some time. During their adventure in the painting world, the Peerless bracelet was broken.
That was the time she saw Jiu Xuan Ye’s true form from his shadow. She never spoke of it, uncertain how to begin. But when Jiu Xuan Ye ended their relationship, Duan Ban Xia wept, apologizing over and over for never told him about the truth.
Jiu Xuan Ye decided to face his truth. He remembered his father’s last words that humans can be good or evil, and so can demons. Jiu Cang Ming had hoped Jiu Xuan Ye would be a good demon. Leaving behind his treasured sword at the ancestral hall, Jiu Xuan Ye departed. Chi Xue wanted to follow, but Jiu Xuan Ye refused, afraid he might harm him.
But fate was cruel. Zi Kong lured him into a trap. He strips Jiu Xuan Ye of his human form and made Jiu Xuan Ye lost the ability to transform back into human form. This made Jiu Xuan Ye captured by demon hunters.
Chi Xue who was following Jiu Xuan Ye died trying to protect him. The demon hunters and the constable took the black panther to the town. Jiu Xuan Ye was caged and scorned by the townspeople.
Duan Ban Xia came to his rescue. But they were ambushed again, and Jiu Xuan Ye was taken by Shen Tu Nan. Determined, Duan Ban Xia pursued them to the Underground City, joined by Chu You Huang and Sima Ling Ying. When they finally reunited, Jiu Xuan Ye revealed he had begun to remember his past, including how he once saved Duan Ban Xia twelve years ago.
The couple decided to leave the Underground city despite Shen Tu Nan’s persuasion With the help of their friends, they found a secluded mountain home.
Duan Ban Xia dreamed of marrying Jiu Xuan Ye. She even wondered if their future daughter would have a tail, fur, or fangs. When he asked if she regretted being with him, she answered firmly that if they can’t change who they are, they must learn to accept it.
If they keep making things hard for themselves, they will never overcome anything. Whatever happened are their fate. They just have to cherish it and that was enough. Yet deep down, she feared the day he might remember everything and choose to leave.
Though she appeared childish, Duan Ban Xia was wise beyond her years. She is perceptive, resilient, and brave.🥰
The two of them lived peacefully for a time, until one night Jiu Xuan Ye unexpectedly transformed into a panther.
Somewhere nearby, Shen Tu Nan had played Zi Kong’s bone flute. Though the melody was familiar, Jiu Xuan Ye instinctively knew it wasn’t Zi Kong. He believed that Zi Kong would never intentionally harm him. But when he awoke and found Duan Ban Xia unconscious, blood seeping from a wound on her arm, his heart sank.
He made the painful decision to leave her. He carried her to Chu You Huang’s house, entrusted her safety to their friend, and set off alone to track down the one responsible. Retrieving his sword, he headed straight for the Underground City.
After learning from Zi Kong that Shen Tu Nan harbored ulterior motives toward Jiu Xuan Ye, Duan Ban Xia and her friends decided to infiltrate the Underground City. They had to act quickly, Shen Tu Nan was after Jiu Xuan Ye’s demon bones.
At that very moment, Jiu Xuan Ye was making his way toward the Bone Washing Pool. Meanwhile, Lyu Chun Mian discovered the intrusion. A fierce battle broke out as Zi Kong, Sima Ling Ying, and Chu You Huang held off Lyu Chun Mian and the guards, giving Duan Ban Xia the chance to reach the Sky Cavern to search Jiu Xuan Ye.
Inside the Sky Cavern, Shen Tu Nan persuaded Jiu Xuan Ye to jump into the Bone Washing Pool. But Jiu Xuan Ye had already begun to suspect him, especially after discovering the broken Underground City token.
When he confronted him, Shen Tu Nan finally revealed his true intentions. He longed to become a demon, believing it was the only way to destroy the Carefree Herbs which was the source of all demons.
These mystical plants, rooted in the Carefree Land, produced the primordial spirits that gave birth to demons. To erase demons from existence, the herbs had to be eradicated. Jiu Xuan Ye killed him with the Origin-Returning Sword, but the cost was high: Zi Kong, Chu You Huang, and Sima Ling Ying all died.
He found Duan Ban Xia collapsed, fatally wounded. She urged him to leave her behind. In despair, the Real-Felicity Sword revealed its final solution: with one swing, everything could return to the beginning. But at the cost of all memories. Jiu Xuan Ye chose to save Duan Ban Xia. Before he swung the blade, Jiu Xuan Ye whispered for her to forget him.
Time reset to twelve years ago. Only Jiu Xuan Ye, now Man Ying, who remembered. History repeated, but not identically. This time, Man Ying interference has ensuring that everything moved in the right track.
The Jiu family still alived. Jiu Cang Ming still ran Ganshan Clinic with his family and took Chi Xue as a disciple. The Duan family lived peacefully, untouched by tragedy. Duan Ban Xia, never kidnapped or exposed to demons. She grew up become a strong and kind lady. Eventually, their families became neighbors again.
Even though Duan Ban Xia lived a normal life, she always felt something was missing. For years, she had strange dreams about a man. She could not remember his face or name, but the dreams felt very real. Because of this, people still said she was mentally ill. No one believed her. But deep down, Duan Ban Xia was sure. What she saw was not a dream. It was real.
Then one day, at the noodle shop, she saw him. His back was strangely familiar. She chased after him and pulled his sleeve. The man turned back and Duan Ban Xia saw the confused face of Man Ying. Though he denied ever meeting her, she couldn’t shake the feeling they were connected.
Because she fell, Man Ying had to carry her home. On the way, Duan Ban Xia talked non-stop, like someone who had never had anyone to talk to. She asked if he would stay in the city, but he said no, he will be leaving soon.
Meanwhile, Man Ying also secretly helped Jiu Cang Ming and Chi Xue at the Reunion Inn. He was masked then, but when they met again, Chi Xue recognized him. Chi Xue, now stronger than before, told Man Ying that his master had warned him not to look for him, even though Man Ying meant no harm.
He also said Jiu Cang Ming was searching for someone to inherit his legacy, but he was very particular about the man. Before they parted ways, Man Ying took Chi Xue to buy clothes. It was something he regretted not doing in their past life.
When fate reset, a demon butterfly woke Man Ying, and he immediately remembered Duan Ban Xia. He returned to the human world to protect her from afar. It hurt to be the only one who remembered their love, but her safety made it worth it.
Still, fate kept pulling him back. He ran into Jiu Cang Ming, who was impressed by his skills. But this time, Jiu Cang Ming knew he was a demon. He said there were two demons traveling the world, defeating evil ones and collecting their primordial spirits.
They were buying Moon Bugs, which fed on these spirits, for a high price. Jiu Cang Ming guessed that one of them was Man Ying. He believed the Carefree Herbs were withering because too many demons had left for the human world, breaking the cycle of the primordial spirits that kept the herbs alive.
Jiu Cang Ming offered his Moon Bugs as thanks for past kindness. When he patted Man Ying’s shoulder, his Dragon Case sword brushed against him. Later, Jiu Cang Ming found a new crack in the sword’s sheath.
Eventually, the truth came back to Duan Ban Xia. The old man with the butterfly demon helped her remember everything. Desperate, she sought out Man Ying in the Underground City. When she saw Man Ying, Duan Ban Xia called him Xuan Ye.
Man Ying took Duan Ban Xia to their old mountain home. They talked about everything she had forgotten, and he told her the whole truth, including about Shen Tu Nan. Now he was just an ordinary demon hunter who had never been to the Carefree Land. Duan Ban Xia and Man Ying spent their days visiting the places they used to go. Even though Duan Ban Xia wished he could stay, they both knew it was impossible.
Before their final goodbye, she invited their friends for a meal. Sima Ling Ying, Chu You Huang, Chi Xue, and Wen Jia were present. Everyone seemed just like before. Wen Jia was still talkative, Chu You Huang was still kind and simple, and Sima Ling Ying remained sharp and observant.
During the meal, Jiu Cang Ming arrived. Man Ying left the table to speak with him. Jiu Cang Ming asked who he really was. He could not be tricked because he knew the Real Felicity sword had been used, and it must be connected to Man Ying. So, Man Ying told him the truth.
On the ending, Jiu Cang Ming was heartbroken and felt sorry for his son. But they had to part ways. The token Man Ying used to travel between realms was broken, and they could only meet again in twelve years.
After the meal, Duan Ban Xia walked Man Ying to the entrance of the Underground World. They smiled as they said goodbye, but once he was gone, they both cried. Their love was deep, but fate was cruel.
What Happened to Chu You Huang and Sima Ling Ying on The Demon Hunter’s Romance Ending?
When Jiu Xuan Ye went missing, Chu You Huang and Sima Ling Ying joined the search. They sensed something was wrong when they saw Duan Ban Xia’s reaction after she said Jiu Xuan Ye was chasing a black panther demon.
Sima Ling Ying told Chu You Huang that she had once encountered a demon related to Jiu Xuan Ye in Shendu. Chu You Huang was upset that she had never told him. But Sima Ling Ying replied coolly, asking if he would have listened even if she had. Her blunt answer left him speechless.
After Jiu Xuan Ye’s true form was revealed and he was taken to the Underground City, Chu You Huang and Sima Ling Ying followed Duan Ban Xia to see him. They weren’t shaken by the truth about his identity. However, Shen Tu Nan made Sima Ling Ying uneasy. Her sharp instincts warned her that something was off about him. Chu You Huang, being simple and straightforward, didn’t believe her.
Later, the couple helped Duan Ban Xia and Jiu Xuan Ye find a house in the mountains. While watching Chu You Huang do chores, Sima Ling Ying teased that if they ever got married, he would end up doing most of the housework since his rank and income were lower than hers.
As they spent more time together, Chu You Huang started to see Sima Ling Ying differently. Love began to grow quietly in his heart. It only took a storekeeper calling them “newlyweds” to stir up those feelings.
At the end, when Duan Ban Xia went to the Underground City, Sima Ling Ying and Chu You Huang followed her. They fought bravely against Shen Tu Nan’s guards but were badly outnumbered. Chu You Huang was the first to fall under Lyu Chun Mian’s sword. Not long after, Sim Ling Ying also fell. It was because the same sword that pierced Chu You Huang’s body. Sima Ling Ying died by his side.
What Happened to Shen Tu Nan on The Demon Hunter’s Romance Ending?
Shen Tu Nan was Jiu Cang Ming’s martial brother, so Jiu Xuan Ye called him martial uncle. He lived in the Underground City and ruled it as the city lord. When a black panther demon appeared in Guangping City, Shen Tu Nan showed up and took Jiu Xuan Ye back with him.
Shen Tu Nan told Jiu Xuan Ye what had happened twelve years ago. Back then, Jiu Cang Ming had found him unconscious in the Underground City. Because the Mystic Panther Clan could hide their demon nature, Jiu Cang Ming didn’t know Jiu Xuan Ye was a demon. He saw a talented boy with no memory and took him in.
Soon, he began training him to be a demon hunter. Four years later, during a mission, Jiu Cang Ming saw Jiu Xuan Ye’s real form when he used hypostasis water. It broke his heart. But he loved Jiu Xuan Ye like his own son, so he created the Peerless Bracelet to hide his true identity and kept him close.
Meanwhile, Shen Tu Nan had been working on a secret plan. He wanted to become a demon. For that, he needed the souls of a thousand demons. The ones he caught were thrown into the Bone Washing Pool, where their bodies were destroyed in seconds. He told Jiu Xuan Ye the pool could turn a demon into a human and asked him to jump in.
Jiu Xuan Ye pretended to consider it, but he was already suspicious. In his eyes, Shen Tu Nan and Lyu Chun Mian always kept a calm demeanour. But the more they pushed for Jiu Xuan Ye to go through the transformation, the more it felt wrong. Jiu Xuan Ye started looking into Song Qi’s disappearance and began to believe Shen Tu Nan had killed him.
Once the truth was out, Shen Tu Nan attacked. During their fight, Duan Ban Xia appeared. She was captured by Lyu Chun Mian’s guards. Shen Tu Nan used her as a hostage. Just as she was about to be thrown into the Bone Washing Pool, Zi Kong, Sima Ling Ying, and Chu You Huang rushed in to help. A fierce battle broke out.
Jiu Xuan Ye and Zi Kong became trapped in a demon-subduing formation carved into the cavern walls. With no other way out, Zi Kong chose to sacrifice himself. He charged at Shen Tu Nan, and both fell into the pool. Before he died, Zi Kong turned to his brother and said he was leaving the Carefree Land and their clan in his hands. Zi Kong remembered his promise to protect his younger brother, Man Ying.
Zi Kong was the final demon Shen Tu Nan needed to complete his transformation. In his madness, he looked at Duan Ban Xia and asked if she remembered when she ran from a human trafficker and fell into the Bone Washing Pool. That was when she had accidentally entered the Carefree Land. Unbeknownst to her, Shen Tu Nan had also entered the gate.
There, he saw the Carefree Herbs, the source of all demons. Shen Tu Nan believed if he destroyed the herbs, demons would no longer exist. But as a human, he couldn’t harm anything in the Carefree Land. So he planned to become a demon, sneak in, and destroy it all.
On the ending, as the Realm Gate opened, Shen Tu Nan got ready to leave. But Jiu Xuan Ye shattered the gate. Enraged, Shen Tu Nan tried to destroy the Underground City and Guangping City along with it. In that final moment, Jiu Xuan Ye’s sword showed him the solution. He picked up the Origin-Returning Sword and struck Shen Tu Nan. Shen Tu Nan fell into the pool and was died.
My Two Cents
That was a long ending explanation, I know. The Demon Hunter’s Romance drama has a really complex ending, but that’s what makes it so special. The story is deep and full of meaning. Still, I really didn’t like the ending. It was so sad. I’ve never read the novel, and now I wonder if it ends the same way.
By the way, did you notice? After Jiu Xuan Ye’s demon side woke up, his ears looked more pointed. I didn’t catch it at first, but after watching the ending a few times, I finally saw it.
