Dear readers, Speed and Love is such a sweet love story. To finish this post, I had to rewatch this drama several times, and I didn’t regret it at all. The last part, when they were in Nanjing was my favorite part of the show. This time, the whole article focused entirely on the lovebirds. So, it only carried one title, “What Happened to Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao”. This is the first time I wrote an Ending Explained piece that talks only about the main leads. What Happened to Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao on Speed and Love Ending?
Jin Zhao and Jiang Mu were separated for 7 years. She went to Canada to stay with her sick mother, Jiang Ying Han, and continued her studies in Astronomy. During those years, Jin Zhao never made a contact with her. When Jiang Mu later visited her father and asked about Jin Zhao’s whereabouts.
Both Jin Qiang and Zhao Mei Juan said that they never saw him. They assumed that Jin Zhao already settled somewhere. They intentionally lied about him. Jiang Mu learned from Pan Kai that Jin Zhao had once returned to Manshi. She couldn’t understand why Jin Qiang and Zhao Mei Juan would lie about Jin Zhao.
Jiang Mu returned to Nanjing to work with her senior, Gu Zhi Jie, at an observatory. She told him about her dream of opening a coffee shop at the foot of a mountain under the paulownia tree. Every autumn, the place would be covered with paulownia tree leaves.
It was such a perfect dream. unfortunately, she still has so many things to do before she could make it come true. And even though Jiang Mu was not happy, the life must go on.
While living in Canada, Jiang Mu worked part time as a tutor and saved enough money to buy an old house in Nanjing. But the house had already been sold. The new owner traveled often, yet she still hoped to meet him and persuade him to sell.
At that time, Jiang Mu did not know Jin Zhao was also in Nanjing. During a morning run, she ran into a dog she recognized as Lightning. The sitter said the dog belonged to a nearby coffee shop. Around the same time, Gu Zhi Jie called and mentioned a coffee shop at the foot of Zijin Mountain, surrounded by trees. It was called Moon. Jiang Mu began to suspect the owner was Jin Zhao.
Jiang Mu was convinced with her suspicion after she saw that the whole coffee shop was decorated with things she liked. Telescope, planes, space craft, and so on. And after she tasted the special coffee called Moon. She was 100% certain that Jin Zhao had returned.
However, the waiter refused to reveal the owner’s identity when Jiang Mu asked for it. They just told her to register her name in a guest book, just like everyone else. So she cheekily wrote her identity and left the expensive fountain pen that Jin Zhao once gave her.
Later that day, Jiang Mu found a photo of the owner of the coffee shop on the internet. Even though it was only his back, she was certain it was him. But one comments claimed her might be married and it made her jealous.
When Jiang Mu returned to retrieve her pen, the waiters said that their boss has taken it. he said he would return it personally on Sunday. At the same time, her real estate agent called and said that the owner of the old house willing to meet her on the same day.
After work, Jiang Mu went to the coffee shop and finally meet Jin Zhao. He said that he had guessed it was her. Seeing him acting so nonchalant irritated Jiang Mu. She refused the cake he offered but ended up eating it anyway.
Jin Zhai said that he didn’t contact her because he feared she might already have someone by her side and reaching out to her would put everyone in an awkward situation. That answer only made her angrier.
Then Jiang Mu asked if he was married. Jin Zhao avoided the question and asked about her instead. Smiling, Jiang Mu replied that she was getting married by the end of the year. She also admitted that the reason she returns to Nanjing was also because of him. This time, Jin Zhao was the one caught off guard. He clearly didn’t see that coming…😁
But seeing him like that didn’t make her mood better. Instead, it turns worse. Jiang Mu asked if he would attend the wedding and forced him to agree even if he didn’t want it. And before he left her, she already took the pen and leave in a huff.
Later, she learned that the owner of the house was also him. They parted again in a sour mood. That night, Jiang Mu realized she had followed the academic path Jin Zhao had been forced to abandon, while he had quietly fulfilled her dream.
The next day, Jin Zhao accept a wedding invitation from Jiang Mu. She had edited her friend’s wedding invitation and put her face on the bride’s picture to provoke Jin Zhao. She wanted to shake him up a little bit because he kept acting so indifferent to her.
Jiang Mu didn’t forget to say that she needed him to come because he was her only family member. She didn’t forget to add that he has to prepare gold jewellery sets and a thick red envelope.
It worked! Jin Zhao showed up and only realized the truth after seeing the actual bride and groom. Relief washed over him. However, Jiang Mu continued to lie about having a boyfriend. She wasn’t done punishing him yet.
They both stayed busy with work. Jin Zhao ran the café, worked as a consultant, and continued his studies. Jiang Mu learned from the waiter that Jin Zhao’s health was poor and that he could not handle a regular job.
She took Lightning home and left a message saying Jin Zhao could pick the dog up himself. But he hesitated, still believing she had a boyfriend.
Jin Zhao asked many things about Jiang Mu’s so-called boyfriend. Jiang Mu described a man with no stable job, no house, and flirty behaviour. Jin Zhao grew angry and told her not to joke like that again because it hurt.
Jiang Mu finally got the answer she’s been looking from the café staff. Jin Zhao had claimed he was married and his family lived abroad. Hearing their story made Jiang Mu furious. She went straight to his house, and there, she really did meet a woman.
That lady is Julia, Jin Zhao’s personal physician. She was married, and her children lived in Canada. Julia noticed that Jiang Mu looked similar to the little girl in Jin Zhao’s picture. She also guessed her name is Mu, because it was the name that Jin Zhao kept murmuring when he was unconscious years ago.
Julia told Jiang Mu how terrible Jin Zhao’s condition after the accident. It could be said that he was on the brink of death. After his condition improved, Jin Zhao chose to return to Nanjing. But his health was still has unstable, that’s why Julia followed him.
Julia also told Jiang Mu that Jin Zhao survived because he has a strong willpower. Therefore, she mustn’t give up on him. Everything Julia said was confirmed after Jiang Mu visited Thailand once again. Julia even helped her to obtain the medical record.
Jiang Mu decided to force Jin Zhao to tell the truth during a hike. The track was too hard for him, but he pretended to be fine. Only after she saw his pale face, Jiang Mu broke down and demanded the truth from him.
Jin Zhao admitted that he planned to look for her when his condition improved. Watching he chokes up, Jin Zhao’s tears finally fell. When Jiang Mu asked if he wanted to reconcile, he had no answer.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, she asked him to celebrate with her. Jin Zhao hid the fact that he was in the hospital receiving an IV because of a fever and cold. His face was pale and gaunt. But when he met her, he tried to look better.
Jin Zhao reminisced about the time he pretended to be okay just to break up with her. San Lai said that Jiang Mu was sure that Jin Zhao would never abandon her, and then Jin Zhao recounted Jiang Mu’s childhood story: She was so weak back then. Hospital visits were a regular activity due to her fragile condition.
Jin Zhao vowed that Jiang Mu should marry someone who understands her inside and out. If she married a jerk, he promised to beat him to death. However, now that his health is failing, he doesn’t want her by his side. He didn’t want her life to be filled with suffering because of him; he didn’t want to be that kind of person.
That night, Jiang Mu poured out her feelings to him, saying that she had never forgotten him and still loved him, but Jin Zhao only froze when he heard that. Disappointed because she thought her confession had been rejected, Jiang Mu left the apartment.
Only then did Jin Zhao snap out of his stupor and chase her, kissing her inside the elevator. Even after the kiss, however, Jin Zhao said that although he wanted to be with her, he thought about her future and didn’t want her to suffer with him. He sent his latest medical records to Jiang Mu so she could think it over before deciding.
To be honest, I was a little lost in all this. At first, Jiang Mu was the one who confessed. Then Jin Zhao wanted her to think it over. Then he was impatient for her decision. Why was she the one who confessed, yet he became the one waiting for the answer? 🙍🏻♀️
It wasn’t easy to convince Jin Zhao, either. He always hesitated. He didn’t want her to suffer, but he also didn’t want to let go. Only after he saw that moon and sun could exist in the same sky did he finally give in.
Jin Zhao had to admit that being in a relationship with Jiang Mu made him happy. That night, Jiang Mu had a hard launch at work, and everyone was happy for them.
This part is so sweet! The way they sat together with their hands intertwined should have been enough. But the background effects were so bad that they pulled me right out of the scene. Sometimes, less really is more. 😒
After a heartfelt conversation that night, Jiang Mu took the initiative, and they ended up sleeping together. Early the next morning, Jin Zhao asked her to move in with him. While packing her things, he told her that years ago, he worked at a factory in Beijing.
After making a name for himself, he went to the Automotive Engineering Institute to work on technical engineering innovations. Despite his busy schedule, he opened a coffee shop and then worked as a consultant.
After the accident, Jin Zhao never drove a car again. Even though Lin Sui persuaded him to be his racing driver, every time Jin Zhao touched the steering wheel, he had a flashback of the night his car lost control.
However, he managed to overcome his fears when he helped a woman park her car. The strength might have come from Jiang Mu, who stood in front of him, waiting patiently until he finished parking. Helping someone park was a small thing for a talented racer like him, but those small gestures became his way of winning back something he thought he had lost.
More of the story was revealed when Jiang Mu met San Lai, Jin Feng Zi, and Lin Sui, who had come to Nanjing. San Lai and Jin Feng Zi now work for Jin Zhao. Jin Feng Zi, a former idle man who is now a college graduate with black hair, works with Jin Zhao as a technician.
Meanwhile, San Lai has decided to close his pet shop and open a restaurant. He also moved to Nanjing to work as the cafeteria manager at the company.
Lin Sui told Jiang Mu that he has been persuading Jin Zhao to work with him. Since his body can no longer handle being a racer, Jin Zhao works as a mentor in Lin Sui’s racing club.
Lin Sui, who used to be a competitor, is now an equal partner, friend, and third wheel. On many occasions, he has tried to persuade Jin Zhao to be a racer for him, but Jin Zhao has always refused. Lin Sui knew that his body wasn’t fit for it. It was just Lin Sui’s way of encouraging Jin Zhao and maintaining his spirits.
One day, Jiang Mu left her important documents at home. When Jin Zhao chased her, the bus had already left. Then, he saw black smoke coming out of the bus engine. Panicking, he tried to call Jiang Mu, but her phone was busy.
Frantically, Jin Zhao ran back home and grabbed his car keys. At first, he hesitated, but the thought of Jiang Mu in trouble overcame his fear, and he was back on the road in an instant, chasing after the bus.
Inside the bus, a passenger informed the driver. When the bus stopped, Jin Zhao saw the passenger hurriedly leave the burning bus. But Jiang Mu wasn’t there, so he called her again, and this time she answered.
In an unhurried voice, she said that she was in the convenience store and asked him to bring her documents. Seeing her was fine, his chest loosened. The fear faded. Jin Zhao realized how important Jiang Mu was to him. Jiang Mu was also happy that he could drive again.
Jin Zhao finally understood that true love isn’t self-righteous sacrifice, but rather, two hearts defying rain and wind together.
Remembering Jin Qiang’s wish, Jin Zhao made a bowl of noodles for Jiang Mu on his behalf. Jin Qiang has turned over a new leaf. He stopped drinking and realized that he must take care of Jin Xin.
He couldn’t afford to make the same mistake with her that he made with Jiang Mu. Jin Zhao explained to Jiang Mu that Jin Qiang wasn’t good with words, but his love for her was genuine.
Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao travelled to Canada. It was his idea to visit their mom. Jin Zhao wondered if, when Jiang Ying Han forbade him from contacting Jiang Mu, she had already seen his feelings for Jiang Mu. Now, Jin Zhao’s biggest fear is her sadness and disappointment.
At Jiang Ying Han and Chris’s house, Jin Zhao saw potted plants everywhere. Jiang Ying Han was still cold towards him and avoided him. She only looked at him when he said that Jiang Mu now lived with him.
Jin Zhao gave Jiang Ying Han the gold jewelry sets and the thick red envelop that he prepared for Jiang Mu as a betrothal gift. He told her about his wish to propose to Jiang Mu. Yet, even after Jiang Mu intervened, Jiang Ying Han didn’t say anything.
Jin Zhao followed Jiang Ying Han to help her tend to her plants. She told him about her past and how she always wanted to finish everything before going to bed. On the contrary, Jin Qiang has terrible procrastination issues. I feel like writing about myself. This difference caused them to argue constantly. The little love they had slowly eroded.
Jiang Ying Han asked if Jin Zhao blamed her, but he didn’t answer. Instead, he told her how to prune a tree the way she used to tell him years ago. Only then did Jiang Ying Han’s heart soften toward him. There were no words such as “I’m sorry” or “I forgive you.”
There was only a tacit understanding that they would start treating each other like family again. The next day, Jiang Mu saw her mother and Jin Zhao were busy in the garden. The whole blended family happily celebrated Chinese New Year together.
On their departure day, Jiang Ying Han prepared a gift for Jin Zhao. She gave him a warm hug before they leave. Jiang Ying Han finally realized that, although Jin Zhao was not her biological child, she had raised him herself. All this time, she had projected her resentment toward Jin Qiang onto Jin Zhao.
Because of that, he shouldered a lot of negative emotions he should never have had. She still regrets it, but the past cannot be rewritten. All she could do now was entrust her daughter to Jin Zhao and give him the black scarf she knitted for him 18 years ago.
“When we were child, we didn’t get to choose. We were family but we were torn apart. But now, are you willing to build a family with me again?”
Jin Zhao proposed to Jiang Mu at the airport. With a ring hanging from a brand-new keyring. Jiang Mu was over the moon. She had waited a long time to hear those words.
The wedding was held in Nanjing. They had a bachelor party. San Lai, Jin Feng Zi, Na Na, and even Wan Qing showed up. Everyone imagined they would look cool and stylish at the wedding. But reality was very different.
The next day, the groomsmen and the bridesmaids were completely drunk. Even Lin Sui, Lian Yan Feng, and Wen, who didn’t even attend the party, somehow ended up wasted too. Seeing the chaos, Jin Zhao suddenly had idea to elope. Jiang Mu, of course, agreed. They jumped onto a motorcycle and rode along the shoreline, still dresses their wedding clothes.
“He used to set out and returned alone. From now on, we will set out together. and our destination is HOME. “

Did they forget about the dog? 😮
I really loved the airport proposal on this Speed and Love ending explained. It felt so ordinary, yet so romantic. I was honestly getting tired of the usual setups with flowers, balloons, and the dramatic drop on one knee kind of thing.
Yes, it looked nice sometimes. But when every drama does the same thing, it stats to feel repetitive. This one is simple, almost plain, and that is exactly what makes it so pleasing to watch.
In episode 27, there was a fun remake of The Lonely Guardian iconic scene. It was when Kim Shin and the Grim Reaper walked through the tunnel with their long coats flowing under the light. Here, Jin Zhao and Lin Sui did something similar.
The difference is that they were walking through the market alley while grocery shopping. It was funny because they were hit by a group of overly enthusiastic aunties. I laughed so hard at Lin Sui’s stunned expression. 😂😂😂
But the wedding day was such a disappointment. Yep. There was no aisle, no speech, and no dance. I wish I could have seen Lin Sui in his tux. He would have looked very good.
