The Double Ending Explained
What Happened to Xue Fang Fei / Jiang Li / Ah Li on The Double Ending?
The Prime Minister suspected Lord Cheng and Li Zhong Nan of plotting to usurp the throne. He told Old Madam Jiang that he would defend the Emperor. Old Madam Jiang reassure her son that she is on his side. Jiang Li’s third aunt overheard and told her husband. They were scared because Lord Cheng was powerful.
On the D-day, Zhao Ke was knocked out by Jiang Li’s third uncle. At the same time, someone sent a fake letter to Xue Fang Fei, telling her to go to the Duke’s residence. Thinking about her family who stayed there, Xue Fang Fei immediately leave only bring the fake Zhao Ke with her.
But in the middle of the road Xue Fang Fei was suspicious and stopped the carriage. However, the fake Zhao Ke had been aware. He knocked her out and took Xue Fang Fei to Princess Wan Ning’s residence.
Wan Ning visited Xue Fang Fei in the dungeon. She wanted to settle the score with Xue Fang Fei for the fake pregnancy matter. However, Wan Ning wanted to wait until Xiao Heng arrived so she could see them suffer together. Not long after, Shen Yu Rong also visited Xue Fang Fei. he came to take her away.
Xue Fang Fei said that Wan Ning is pitiful for loving Shen Yu Rong. He rebuked her words and said Wan Ning deserved it. She made him kill his wife. Xue Fang Fei laughed and sneered and said it was his choice. Shen Yu Rong was afraid of death and losing his future.
Xue Fang Fei then agreed to follow him. But before she left the cell, Shen Yu Rong knocked her out and took Xue Fang Fei to Li’s residence. He told his guards to keep an eye on Xue Fang Fei and left.
After Shen Yu Rong left, Old General Xiao and Lai Biao came to save Xue Fang Fei. She was taken to the palace to see Xiao Heng.
Because the Longwu Army was near the city, Xiao Heng didn’t stay long and soon left. Xue Fang Fei understood that Xiao Heng was going to draw the Longwu Army out of the city and was ready to sacrifice his life. Xue Fang Fei wanted to chase him, so she asked for a bow and arrow from the dumbfounded Old General Xiao. She then explained that she could only asked for them because Xiao Heng only taught her archery. 😅😅
Xue Fang Fei chased Xiao Heng to the city gate. She told Xiao Heng that she would never abandon him. Xue Fang Fei then told Shen Yu Rong that he could kill her for the second time. She wouldn’t regret dying for her country.
Shen Yu Rong did not believe Xue Fang Fei’s words. He said that no matter what they did, they’d be forgotten. Xue Fang Fei refuted this and said that someone would remember. Thus, Xue Fang Fei told the story of the Battle of Wang City, where a hundred soldiers of the Longwu Army died unjustly. She mentioned the deceased name one by one.
It brings back sad memories to the present soldiers. When the general of the Longwu Army asked how she knew the names, she said the Old General Xiao told her.
Xue Feng Fei’s father remembered the past. Xue Fang Fei asked for forgiveness for making them suffer. But Magistrate Xue said it wasn’t her fault. Xue Fang Fei said she couldn’t return to Huixiang because she was still the Second Lady Jiang.
Magistrate Xue understands, he also gives his blessings for Xue Fang Fei and Xiao Heng’s relationship. Xue Fang Fei told Xioo Heng about it. She also hinted that his residence needs some renovations (because she would move there as his wife). 😍
Before they got married, Xue Fang Fei and Xiao Heng visited Jiang Li and Tong’er’s graves. She felt Jiang Li was there and thanked Xue Fang Fei for clearing her name. On their wedding night, Xue Fang Fei gave him her most precious jade pendant. They also planted a tree on the hill. Xiao Heng said he’d come back when the tree bloomed.
Jian Yuan Bai said he retired and was going back to Yongzhou. Xue Fang Fei wanted to confess her identity, but Jiang Yuan Bai already knew. He asked about the time Jiang Li died. Xue Fang Fei said Jiang Li died peacefully. She and Tong’er were with Jiang Li.
Jiang Yuan Bai told Xue Fang Fei to keep her identity as Jiang Li because he was worried about Old Madam Jiang’s health. Ye Shi Jie also knew her identity, but he didn’t mind. He still wanted Xue Fang Fei to regard him as her older brother.
Jiang Li is gone, and only Xue Fang Fei remains. But she is no longer alone, because she has plenty of family members who love and care for her.
What Happened to Xiao Heng/Duke Su on The Double Ending?
Xiao Heng and the Emperor were on alert because Lord Cheng was coming to the capital with his troops for a solid reason. Xiao Heng finally told Xue Fang Fei about his father, Xiao Ming Han, who died an unjust death after he was abandoned by Lord Cheng. Xiao Heng was sure Lord Cheng would take action against the Emperor.
To prepare for the ancestral banquet, Xiao Heng took all his secret guards and disguised them as eunuchs to protect the emperor. He was checking on them when Zhao Ke said Xue Fang Fei was missing. The third uncle confessed that Princess Wan Ning threatened him to lure Xue Fang Fei out of the residence.
Xiao Heng wanted to find her, but Lu Ji stopped him because it was clearly a trap. Xiao Heng reassured them that he would still be present at the banquet. They just need to follow the plan accordingly.
But when he was about to go, the Old General Xiao stopped him. The Old General said that he personally would go and save his granddaughter-in-law.
During the banquet, Lord Cheng’s faction started taking action. Xiao Heng had the emperor taken out of the hall. Lord Cheng tried to stop his brother. Consort Rou intervened and stayed in the hall so her husband could leave. The Emperor was reluctant to leave her, but she looked at him reassuringly. Xiao Heng was waiting outside. He didn’t follow the emperor because he had to make sure no one followed them.
Xiao Heng stopped Lord Cheng and used his late father’s sword to face him. Lord Cheng only laughed mockingly. Xiao Heng told Lord Cheng that his father, General Xiao, believed in him wholeheartedly. But Lord Cheng still plotted against him and betrayed him.
Lord Cheng said he saw General Xiao as a brother and respected him as a master. However, Xiao Ming Han got in the way, so he had to eliminate him. If Xiao Heng gets in his way, he’ll end up like the late General Xiao.
Meanwhile, Li Zhong Nan intercepts the Emperor at the palace gate. The Emperor was accompanied by his personal eunuch and Lu Ji. They were outnumbered by Li Zhong Nan’s group of guards. Fortunately, Prime Minister Jiang came to help.
Xiao Heng heard that the Longwu Army had arrived in the city, so he had to make some adjustments to his plan. After he reassured that Xue Fang Fei was okay, Xiao Heng went to lure Shen Yu Rong and the Longwu Army to the city gate.
Shen Yu Rong ordered the Longwu Army to kill him, but Xiao Heng only knocked them out. Shen Yu Rong laughed at Xiao Heng, thinking he was alone and had been abandoned. But then Xue Fang Fei arrived on a white horse.
Xue Fang Fei and Situ Jiu Yue arrived just in time to help Xiao Heng take back the command talisman of the Longwu Army. Xiao Heng took the Longwu Army to fight Lord Cheng and avenge the 100 soldiers who died at his hands.
The emperor was saved, even though he lost his beloved wife, Consort Rou. The traitors were arrested and peace was restored. Xiao Heng also made up with his grandfather.
The northern border was weakened after Lord Cheng died. Xiao Heng had to lead the Longwu Army to the battlefield because the Dai Country was ready to attack the Great Yan Kingdom. Before he left, he married Xue Fang Fei. He promised to return on the day the winter blossom tree bloomed.
Xiao Heng had a hard time on the battlefield. He lost all his confidantes, Wen Ji and Lu Ji. They died protecting their master. With blood and injuries all over his body, Xiao Heng fought the Dai army alone.
Months later, Xue Fang Fei climbed the hill and saw the tree had bloomed. From afar, a white horse was seen climbing the hill. The rider wore a red cape and a white jade pendant hung on his waist.
What Happened to Shen Yu Rong on The Double Ending?
Shen Yu Rong sent his mother and sister back to their hometown. He then went to see Lord Cheng secretly. Shen Yu Rong and the lord were planning a coup. However, they didn’t have a good reason to start a war. Shen Yu Rong suggests using Princess Wan Ning’s death to frame the emperor. Lord Cheng was enraged but thought it over and agreed.
When Lord Cheng arrived at the capital, Wan Ning introduced him to Shen Yu Rong. She was oblivious that Shen Yu Rong and Lord Cheng already knew each other. Li Zhong Nan and Wan Ning were shocked when Shen Yu Rong called Lord Cheng “His Majesty.”
After Wan Ning died, She Yu Rong took the drugged Xue Fang Fei and left the Princess Residence. He showed her a fish talisman and said he would protect her. Shen Yu Rong had asked for the talisman from Lord Cheng because he wanted to kill Xiao Heng by himself.
When Li Jin and Lord Cheng started the commotion at the palace banquet, Shen Yu Reng went to see the Longwu Army. With the fish talisman in his hand, he ordered General Yang Qing of the Longwu Army to listen to his command and let the northern army enter the city.
Shen Yu Rong took the Longwu Army to chase Xiao Heng. From the height of the city tower, Shen Yu Rong told Xiao Heng that initially, he did not want to kill him. But because of Xiao Heng, Xue Fang Fei no longer wants to see him. Therefore, Shen Yu Rong decided to kill Xiao Heng.
Let me catch my breath… You should see this scene yourself. I’ve never seen a character as outrageous as Shen Yu Rong. I was speechless… 😱
Xiao Heng really annoyed Shen Yu Rong by asking how he felt about facing up to the past. Of all the taunts that Xiao Heng hurled at Shen Yu, the one that really got under his skin was when he called Xue Fang Fei by her nickname, Ah Li.
Shen Yu Rong said he had no right to call her that. He also said that Xiao Heng was close to death and was abandoned. But before his voice faded, Xue Fang Fei showed up and rebutted his claims.
I could not believe when Shen Yu Rong had the nerve to ask Xue Fang Fei to kill Xiao Heng so they could be together forever. 🤬
When he heard that Xue Fang Fei said she was willing to die for the country, Shen Yu Rong mocked her. At first, he was willing to die for the country, but no matter what he did, no one would remember him. But Xue Fang Fei refuted his words.
Someone would remember, just like she remembered the Battle of Wang City and the 100 soldiers who died. Then Xue Fang Fei used her bow and arrow to shoot at Shen Yu Rong’s hand holding the fish talisman.
When the talisman fell, Situ Jiu Yue, who came to help, caught it and threw it to Xiao Heng. Later, Xiao Heng left and took the Longwu Army with him, and they happily followed him. Shen Yu Rong was left alone in the tower.
Xue Fang Fei came to him and told him that he was a traitor and that she would let him be punished according to the law of the kingdom. She had no intention of killing him because it would stain her hands.
Shen Yu Rong knew that he had lost everything. His future was ruined because he was lost in battle. He also lost his hope of being with Xue Fang Fei. So when the guards came to catch him, he decided to jump off the wall. As he lay dying on the ground, his eyes never left Xue Fang Fei’s figure. But she never turned her head to him.
Later, his property was confiscated. Shen Yu Rong’s mother and sister were arrested and interrogated.
What Happened to Princess Wan Ning on The Double Ending?
Princess Wan Ning imprisoned Xue Fang Fei in her dungeon. She wanted to punish Xue Fang Fei for the fake pregnancy poison. Wan Ning was devastated after discovering she was deceived because the baby was her hope. However, Wan Ning said she won’t lay a finger on her before Xiao Heng arrived. That way, she could see them suffer together.
Wan Ning was delighted when her maid delivered a special stew that Shen Yu Rong had prepared. But after she drank it, Wan Ning realized that the stew was poisonous, and it was Shen Yu Rong who had poisoned her. Wan Ning stopped Shen Yu Rong as he was about to take the unconscious Xue Fang Fei out of Yongan Pavilion. She asked if Shen Yu Rong wanted to kill her to save Xue Fang Fei.
Drenched in the rain, Wan Ning questioned why Shen Yu Rong still chose Xue Fang Fei even though she had treated him well. Wan Ning threatened Shen Yu Rong that her brother, Lord Cheng, would not spare him for what he had done.
But Shen Yu Rong’s reply shocked her. He said that Lord Cheng needed a reason to dispatch his troops. And her death would be the most suitable reason. In desperation, Wan Ning asked him if he ever loved her, but Shen Yu Rong didn’t answer.
Wan Ning slowly took off the hairpin that Shen Yu Rong had given her. She laughed and put the hairpin on Shen Yu Rong’s hand. When he was distracted, Wan Ning pulled out his hand and stabbed her own body.
Shen Yu Rong’s eyes widened when he realized what had happened. Wan Ning is trying to ruin Shen Yu Rong’s plan. By stabbing her own body, she would make no one believe that she was killed by the emperor. That way, Shen Yu Rong would be seen as her murderer and Lord Cheng would no longer be able to protect him.
Before she collapsed, Wan Ning said her last words. She told Shen Yu Rong that she would wait for him in hell because he wanted her to die.
Wan Ning is a woman who would not spare anyone and would always pay back whatever happened to her.
What Happened to Lord Cheng on The Double Ending?
Lord Cheng and his troops returned to the capital. He brought treasures for the emperor, and the emperor rewarded him with many things. On the surface, they treat each other amicably. During the welcoming ceremony, Lord Cheng cast a glance at Shen Yu Rong, which made Xiao Heng suspicious.
After the ceremony, Lord Cheng went to see his sister Wan Ning. Lord Cheng and Wan Ning, with the help of Li Zhong Nan and Shen Yu Rong, planned to stage the rebellion at the ancestral banquet.
On the night of the banquet, Lord Cheng saw the Emperor leaving the hall after receiving a message from his personal eunuch. Followed by Consort Rou, the Emperor excused himself to go to the bathroom. Lord Cheng tried to stop him but failed after Consort Rou went up to him and offered a toast.
Shortly after, Li Jin entered the hall. Holding Wan Ning’s body in his arms, he wailed and cried. He said that the emperor had killed his wife. Li Jin went to Lord Cheng and said that the princess died because she resisted the emperor.
According to Li Jin, the Emperor is trying to kill his siblings because Lord Cheng’s merits have overshadowed him. Consort Rou, who defended the emperor, was seized by Lord Cheng. So Lord Cheng declared that he would seek justice in the name of Heaven. Anyone who opposed him would be executed. Li Zhong Nan was the first to pledge his allegiance.
Outside the hall, Lord Cheng was stopped by Xiao Heng. He scoffed at Xiao Heng and said that if he stood in his way like his father, General Xiao, Xiao Heng would be mercilessly killed. The two factions drew their swords and began to fight.
When the Longwu army approached the city, Xiao Heng withdrew from the battle to lure the army. Lord Cheng continued to kill anyone who prevented him from killing the emperor. After learning that Shen Yu Rong had failed to stop Xiao Heng, Lord Cheng became furious. The situation was reversed. now he was surrounded by Xiao Heng and the Longwu army.
To stop Xiao Heng, Lord Cheng took out Consort Rou. But Consort Rou decided to sacrifice herself. Lord Cheng was stunned to see her die. Xiao Cheng took the opportunity to stab Lord Cheng right in the chest. And with General Xiao Ming Han’s sword, Xiao Heng killed him with a swift slash.
Lord Cheng’s northern army rebelled to seek justice for their lord, but the Emperor was able to suppress them. Li Zhong Nan and his family were arrested and put to death.
The Double Drama Special Episode Ending
The special episode is about the life of Xue Fang Fei and Xiao Heng after they got married. Xiao Heng still loved to tease his wife and was still jealous of Xue Fang Fei’s good relationship with Ye Shi Jie.
Situ Jiu Yue ended up with Xue Zhao. To thank Xue Fang Fei for introducing her to him, Situ Jiu Yue sent a box full of cosmetics and a special medicine for Xiao Heng… 😅.
Xue Fang Fei and Xiao Heng have been married for eight years now and have a daughter. The country is peaceful and Xiao Heng has nothing to worry about at the court. Xue Fang Fei was too busy now that she had been appointed as an exam supervisor together with Ye Shi Jie. But he didn’t mind. And quoting what Xiao Heng said, “Life sometimes has its low. Sometimes it’s hard to tell right from wrong. But God doesn’t abandon the innocent.”
My Two Cents
I never thought I’d see Jiang Yuan Bai, commanding guards on The Double drama ending. Not to mention kicking Li Zhong Nan. He always seemed like a weak person to me…😅
I love the scene where Xue Fang Fei comes to help Xiao Heng. She came on a white horse and looked like a knight who rushed to save the helpless maiden. Only this time, the maiden is Xiao Heng. 😂
Anyway… I am enjoying this drama and I hope you feel the same way. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll see you in another drama review and ending explanation article. Ciao!
