What Happened to Yan Xing and Shen Du on Melody of Golden Age Ending?
Shen Du was arrested by Lai Luo Zhai. But it wasn’t long before Shen Du was released because he decided to join Lai Luo Zhi. Later, Shen Du told Yan Xing that his Shen family needed an educated and well-mannered woman who was completely different from her type. Yan Xing was hurt by his words. She threw away the silver whistle necklace and left the mansion.
Yan Xing returned to the Yan Mansion and the next morning, Shen Du sent the divorce letter to her family. Yan Xing learned that Shen Du and Lai Luo Zhi had joined hands, and that Xu Xiang Ren and Yun Que had died. While paying her respects to the unfortunate couple, Yan Xing met Shen Du, and in a fit of rage, she signed the divorce letter with his blood. She went back to the Yan Mansion and stayed in her room. From that day on, they were no longer tied to each other.
Although she didn’t show it, Yan Xing knew that there must be something behind the divorce. She followed along to see Shen Du’s plan. However, the divorce hurt her heart deeply. Shen Du felt the same way. When he saw Yan Xing standing together with Pan Chi, he was burning with jealousy.
Yan Xing and Pan Chi planned to leave the country. At the border of Great Cang and Nanlang, they met Mr. Chen, Yan Xing’s master. The old man brought the essential information about Lai Luo Zhi’s mother, Princess Bi Luo of Nanlang Country. This secret will be the final weapon to defeat Lai Luo Zhi.
After Lai Luo Zhi’s death, the imprisoned officials and scholars were released. It turned out that they realized that Shen Du had put them in prison to avoid Lai Luo Zhi’s persecution.
Shen Du went to the palace to find out the truth about the Grand Empress Dowager’s involvement in the Shen family’s destruction. Yan Xing wanted to go with him, but he refused. If something happened and he was punished, Shen Du didn’t want Yan Xing to be involved. However, the refusal hurt Yan Xing. She said that if he entered the hall alone, Yan Xing wouldn’t want to see him again. Shen Du went there without looking at her.
The Grand Empress Dowager has fulfilled her promise to reveal the person behind the annihilation of the Shen family. That person is Prime Minister Zhang.
Prime Minister Zhang was involved in the Ming Hall embezzlement case. Prince Xian tried to defend his teacher. However, the Grand Empress Dowager openly showed that she knew that Prime Minister Zhang had done everything to bribe the court official for the sole purpose of helping Prince Xian ascend the throne.
Prince Xian was stunned when he heard Prime Minister Zhang’s confession. The Grand Empress Dowager was furious because she remembered the wrongly accused officials who died because of Premier Zhang. And one of them was Shen Du’s father, Shen Bing Zhu.

The Grand Empress Dowager revealed that the treasonous letter that PM Zhang presented to the late Emperor was not written by Shen Bing Zhu. Zhang Xing Wei had to kill Shen Bing Zhu to cover up his disciple’s mistake of embezzling the granary. Zhang Xing Wei regretted the matter, but he insisted that the case shouldn’t be investigated further because it involved someone important.
The Grand Empress Dowager knew that the case involved her nephew, Zhou Miao. She exposed him to the court and shocked everyone, including PM Zhang. They thought the Grand Empress Dowager would protect her family’s mistake, but she was indeed a righteous ruler.
Shen Du pleads for leniency for the Zhang family members. He said that one person’s mistake should not incriminate the entire innocent family. Shen Du said that he only hopes that the truth will be revealed.
This is the end of Shen Du’s grievances. PM Zhang was given poisoned wine. Prince Xian volunteered to defend the border and wouldn’t return for ten years. The Zhou family members were demoted and sent back to their hometown and banned from entering Xiang’an forever. Finally, the reputation of Shen Bing Zhu and the Shen family was cleared and they could be buried properly.
Meanwhile, Yan Xing was promoted to the position of Director of the Ministry of Justice, and received the plaque inscribed by the Grand Empress Dowager. The words Expert Detective of Great Cang were inscribed on the plaque. The whole Yan family was excited about the plaque.
Academician Yan wanted his daughter to reconcile with her husband. So he urged Yan Xing to take the plaque to the Shen family, which she didn’t do at all. Yan Xing said they were divorced and there was no reason for her to return to the Shen Mansion.

What Happened to Lai Luo Zhi on Melody of Golden Age Ending?
Lai Luo Zhi kidnapped Lu Chui Chui because he was obsessed with her. However, the jealous Lai Luo Fu betrayed him and revealed Lu Chui Chui’s whereabouts to Jiang Lan Xing and Xu Xiang Ren. Jiang Lan Xing stormed into the Lai Mansion. While Xu Xiang Ren helped Lu Chui Chui escaped.
The Grand Empress Dowager fell ill and appointed Lai Luo Zhi as the head of the court. He has the right to reward and punish all the officials in Great Cang. The officials began to support him because they were afraid of him.
Those who didn’t were silenced or arrested. Shen Du was one of those arrested. Lai Luo Zhi revealed that it was the Empress Dowager who planned the annihilation of the Shen family. Shen Du was shocked and couldn’t believe his words.
Then Lai Luo Zhi revealed that he was the leader of the Huo’e sect and asked Shen Du to join him. Shen Du agreed and was released. Now at the court, Lai Luo Zhi was the one who held the most power. He didn’t even care about Princess Yong’an and Prime Minister Zhang’s opinions.
Shen Du supported Lai Luo Zhi when he wanted to put PM Zhang and Princess Yong’an under house arrest. His subordinate also obeyed Lai Luo Zhi’s orders to arrest scholars from humble backgrounds.
Lai Luo Zhi’s main goal was the throne. He made his final move after learning that the Grand Empress Dowager’s illness was worsening. He went to the palace to see the Grand Empress Dowager and revealed that he was the son of Royal Concubine Shu.
Yes, there was a secret behind his background. Lai Luo Zhi’s real name was Xiao Zhi. He was a prince born to Consort Shu, who came from Nanlang Country. After the late Emperor died, Consort Shu was afraid that her son would also die. So she made a plan to commit suicide.
Consort Shu used her life as an exchange for Xiao Zhi’s chance to survive. Before she died, Consort Shu told Xiao Zhi that he must live on and take back everything that belonged to him. She also said that the reason she had to die was because of the Grand Empress Dowager.
Xiao Zhi was saved by his nanny, who sacrificed her son to deceive the palace officials. Before she died, Consort Shu recited a poem about the moth flying into the flame. Consort Shu’s last words became the mantra of the Huo’e sect.
Lai Luo Zhi asked the Grand Empress Dowager to write an abdication edict. This would allow Lai Luo Zhi to ascend to the throne he believed was rightfully his. But the Grand Empress Dowager refused. The next day, envoys from Nanlang Land arrived to present the emperor with treasures. When Lai Luo Zhi stepped forward to accept them, the Grand Empress Dowager entered the hall.
Much to Lai Luo Zhi’s surprise, the Grand Empress Dowager relieved him of his position. The Grand Empress Dowager called for the Imperial Guards, but no one answered. However, when Lai Luo Zhi made the call, Shen Du and the Imperial Guards appeared. Only then did Lai Luo Zhi reveal his purpose by showing the emperor’s robe that Lai Luo Fu had brought with her.
Since her appearance in the hall, the Grand Empress Dowager had been calm and didn’t seem to be worried about the rebellion. Meanwhile, Lai Luo Zhi was furious because an official had questioned his qualifications to be emperor. He ordered the official to be arrested. Surprisingly, Shen Du didn’t obey.
Only then did Shen Du reveal that he was still loyal to the Emperor and the Grand Empress Dowager. Everything that happened was according to the plan that he and the Grand Empress Dowager had devised. They wanted to lure the mastermind behind the Huo’e sect. They believed that the person had to be someone from the court.
However, Lai Luo Zhi also never trusted Shen Du 100%. The so-called Nanlang envoys were actually Lai Luo Zhi’s armed guards. When the hall was in chaos, Lai Luo Fu rushed in to kill the Grand Empress Dowager and the Emperor.
But Shen Du moved faster and stabbed her. Lai Luo Zhi took Lai Luo Fu into his arms. And in front of everyone, he twisted Lai Luo Fu’s neck, causing her to die instantly. After that, Lai Luo Zhi and Shen Du had a fight.
The rebellion outside the palace was put down by Prince Xian and General Zhen Yuan. They had followed Shen Du’s plan to end the unrest in Xiang’an. Shen Du also worked with Jiang Lan Xing and the inspectors to arrest the members of the Huo’e sect. Knowing that his plan had failed, Lai Luo Zhi still refused to surrender.
Lai Luo Zhi confessed that destroying the Shen family was also his plan. But Lai Luo Zhi still blamed the Grand Empress Dowager. Lai Luo Zhi revealed that he was the late Emperor’s son and recited the prophecy. The people were still in shock when Yan Xing stepped forward and revealed the secret behind Lai Luo Zhi’s mother.
Yan Xing revealed the second part of the prophecy, which was hidden in a baby’s clothes. The second half of the prophecy was a warning to the monarch about someone with wild ambitions in the court. The late Prime Minister discovered Lai Luo Zhi’s true identity and secretly revealed it through the prophecy so as not to alert the enemy. He wrote it in a piece of fabric.
But before he could give it to the Grand Empress Dowager, Lai Luo Zhi sent assassins to his home. The late Prime Minister’s maid took the fabric and made a baby clothes for her son. And somehow, it ended up in Yan Xing’s hand.
Yan Xing also brings another shocking piece of information. Lai Luo Zhi’s father was not the late Emperor, but Bi Luo’s lover in Nanlang. Bi Luo stayed on as a royal concubine to protect her lover’s clan and her pregnancy.
In the end, Lai Luo Zhi was truly devastated. Everything he believed in was a lie. And it was his mother who had lied to him in the first place. Driven by frustration, Lai Luo Zhi killed himself. Before he died, he recited the poem of the moth.
What Happened to Lu Chui Chui on Melody of Golden Age Ending?
After escaping from the Lai Mansion, Lu Chui Chui confessed that she had been in contact with Lai Luo Zhi all the time. She also told Yan Xing that the antidote for Yan Cai Wei was also from him. From Lu Chui Chui’s story, Shen Du and Yan Xing found out that Lai Luo Zhi’s goal was the throne.
Lai Luo Zhi was still obsessed with Lu Chui Chui. He forced Lu Chui Chui to follow him and threatened her with Jiang Lan Xing’s life. He gave her three days to consider his request.
Meanwhile, Yan Xing managed to escape the surveillance and went to Lu Pawnshop to see Lee Chui Chui. She helped Lu Chui Chui flee together with Jiang Lan Xing. They stayed away from Xiang’an until the situation was cleared up.
At the ending, After everything was back to normal, Lu Chui Chui planned to marry Jiang Lan Xing. Mr. Lu was very happy and expressed his liking for Lan Xing with the one thing he knew better than anyone else: GOLD in the form of armor. Jiang Lan Xing wanted to refuse, but seeing their excitement, he could only agree… 😂.
What Happened to Yun Que and Xu Xiang Ren on Melody of Golden Age Ending?
Xu Xiang Ren was in a hurry to avenge Sun Tan’s death. Even though Shen Du tried to reason with him, Xu Xiang Ren was determined. He asked Shen Du to promise that if anything happened to him, Shen Du would have to take care of Yun Que.
Since they met at the temple, Xu Xiang Ren and Yun Que have been together. He had promised to give her a grand wedding, which Yun Que happily agreed to. But before they could make it happen, Lai Luo Zhi killed her. Xu Xian Ren and Yun Que died in each other’s arms under the heavy snow on this drama ending.
What Happened to Pan Chi on Melody of Golden Age Ending?
The Grand Empress Dowager decided to reform the official recruitment system. The new system would ensure that everyone, regardless of background, would have an equal opportunity to serve the country.
Because of this new system, Pan Chi was allowed to take part in the examination. However, he was too shy to reveal his presence. So he covered himself with a big cloak. But Jiang Lan Xing was able to recognize him.
Pan Chi told Jiang Lan Xing that he attended the examination to prove himself and to check whether the examination was really fair or not. Jiang Lan Xing still laughed at him, but Pan Chi didn’t care. 😁
At the ending, As for his feelings for Yan Xing, Pan Chi had completely given up. He realized that no matter what happened to Shen Du, Yan Xing’s heart was fixed on him. 💔
My Two Cents
As I said in my review post, I was a bit disappointed with the ending of Shen Du and Yan Xing’s relationship. Well, I was disappointed with the way Shen Du solved their problem. Instead of apologizing to Yan Xing personally, he chooses the most “common” way. Buy her gifts. The more the better.
And I thought… Oh, come on… !!!!!! Why did Shen Du think that money would solve everything? Rather than standing in front of the Yan mansion with a pile of gifts, Shen Du should just go straight to Yan Xing’s bedroom window like Romeo did to Juliet.
Shen Du had so many advantages because he could jump the wall, and Yan Xing’s house was not some kind of high castle. No one would push him off the window like they did to Bran Stark. But the smart Shen Du didn’t use his brain this time. He just let himself be the subject of gossip. Serves you right, mister!
