In the beginning of February 2023, it was announced that filming has begun for Yang Mi‘s new movie called Nothing Can’t Be Undone By a Hot Pot (没有一顿火锅解决不了的事 – Mei You Yi Dun Huo Guo Jie Jue Bu Liao De Shi). The new movie was said to be a suspense-comedy, the latest work of director Ding Sheng.
Ding Sheng has been previously known for his works such as Police Story: Lockdown, Saving Mr. Wu, and S.W.A.T to name a few. Hence, viewers are excited, will this be his new masterpiece in the making?
A Story About Four People Involved in A Murder Case
Nothing Can’t Be Undone by a Hotpot tells the story four people, who are not familiar to each other, sharing spoils in the backstage of a warehouse of a theater.
They then accidentally become involved in a murder case. Through a series of endless suspense, the special identities of the four characters are gradually revealed, and truth is unfolded.
In addition to Yang Mi, the stars line up for the movie also includes Yu Qian, Tian Yu and Ailei Yu. This marks Yang Mi’s first collaboration with veteran actor Yu Qian which piqued the viewers’ interest. Previously, Yu Qian has been known for his roles in movies such as Song of Youth, The Faces of My Gene and Wolf Warrior 2. Needless to say, anticipation is high to see how their acting skills play out in this new movie.
Controversy Around The Movie
That being said, earlier this month there have been reports saying that production of the movie has wrapped up around the end of February. This means it only took the team 20 days to finish shooting the movie. This causes controversy among netizens.
Short shooting time creates suspicions that quality was not adhere to and the team only cares about making money. Although these accusations may be unfound, as we shall see when the movie airs in 2024, but it did not stop the onslaught of criticism surrounding this movie. One netizen even commented: “Could it be that the movie only shoots the artists eating a round of hot pot and be done with it?”.
Not only the fast filming time, Yang Mi’s acting skill is also under fire. Particularly her performance in the movie Baby, back in 2019, which netizens consider as poor and disappointing. Some even highlighted the fact that Baby was made within the span of 9 months. Therefore, comparing with the Nothing Can’t Be Undone by a Hot Pot movie that was filmed in 20 days, the actors and actresses may not have the time to get into character.
