Legend of the Female General Ending Explained
What Happened to He Yan and Xiao Jue on Legend of the Female General Ending?
At the Mid-Autumn banquet, He Yan, equipped with the Qinglang Sword, challenged He Fe Rui in a spar and defeated him in front of the emperor and ministers. Xu Ping Ting then accused her of a capital crime for hiding her real identity as a woman.
But the emperor stayed calm because he already knew it. Xiao Jue had already confessed, pretending that He Yan was his childhood sweetheart and hiding her in the camp. He even offered two military merits as atonement. Unlike his master, Chu Zhao defended He Yan.

The empress ended the dispute, saying constraining He Yan with conventional rules would cost the country a brilliant soldier.
He Yan suspected that He Ru Fei held Xu Jing Fu’s proof of crimes. So, she went to the He mansion to test him. In fact, the test was meant to drive a wedge between He Ru Fei and Xu Jing Fu.
He Yan also saw her mother, Tang Jia, who had long mourned her because she believed He Yan had died and kept her spirit tablet in her room, later destroyed by He Ru Fei.
During the Winter Sacrificial banquet, He Yan exposed He Ru Fei and Xu Jing Fu’s coup before the emperor. They were imprisoned, but it cost Tang Jia’s life. She poisoned herself so the emperor would believe her statement. The emperor rewarded He Yan, Xiao Jue, and Chu Zhao.
He Yan was reinstated as General Feihong to revive the Fuyue army. The Xiao family’s name was restored, and Chu Zhao was promoted to be a Vice Director of the Secretariat.
Xiao Jue brought He Yan to the ancestral hall of the Xiao family. He introduced He Yan as his soulmate in front of his parents’ spirit tablets.
He Yan and Xiao Jue enjoyed the lantern festival by visiting Xianchang Academy and then strolling the night market. Xiao Jue has arranged everything so she can enjoy all the entertainment.
After meeting Yan He and his wife, Xia Cheng Xiu, and Chu Zhao, He Yan and Xiao Jue visited Foguang Temple to admire the red plum blossom. Xiao Jue picked a branch for her, confessed his feelings, and proposed. He Yan said yes, and they kissed beneath the tree, unaware that someone was watching them.
As the wedding plans began, Xiao Jue had already hired the finest embroiderer in town, and he was summoned to the palace. There, Chu Zhao abruptly requested an imperial decree to marry He Yan.
The emperor, who was wary of their combined military power, declared that if Xiao Jue insisted on marrying He Yan, one of them should surrender their military power. Xiao Jue couldn’t abandon either the Xiao army nor ask He Yan to relinquish the Fuyue army and the hard-won title she just reclaimed. The emperor gave him a day to think about it.
The next day, while He Yan tried on her wedding dress, Xiao Jue came up with a decision. He cannot abandon the Xiao army or become her obstacle. And if they cannot be together, he chooses to stay single and alone.
The emperor ordered Xiao Jue to deliver the marriage decree of He Yan and Chu Zhao, threatening his family if Xiao Jue refused the order. Xiao Jue yielded but begged that if He Yan rejected the marriage, she would be allowed to choose her own marriage. Grimly, he proclaimed the edict, shocking everyone.

The palace summoned He Yan, and she entered with a cold expression. She boldly asked the emperor to withdraw the decree.
Facing the smug Chu Zhao, He Yan declared that she understood the emperor’s intention, yet she would marry neither Xiao Jue nor Chu Zhao. If she couldn’t be with the one she loved, He Yan chose to remain alone forever.
Remembering Xiao Jue’s pledge, the emperor granted her request, leaving Chu Zhao in despair. As he watched her resolute figure walk away, the emperor began to question his own decision.
Outside, He Yan confronted Chu Zhao. He admitted to orchestrating the marriage. He Yan told Chu Zhao that no imperial decree could bind her, and there was no future for them. His so-called feelings were not love, but a calculated game.
She told Chu Zhao to stop deluding himself because He Yan knew that she was only an excuse for his ambition. She flung away the jade pendant and declared that Chu Zhao had become another Xu Jing Fu.
Xiao Jing found his brother kneeling in the ancestral hall. He said he understood that Xiao Jue accepted the order to protect him and his wife. Xiao Jing urged Xiao Jue to fight for his love.
No longer hesitating, Xiao Jue rushed to He Yan’s mansion. He admitted that he couldn’t let her go, and He Yan also felt the same. They vowed to stay together even without marriage. She was his chosen wife, and they would grow old together.
As they started enjoying life, Wutuo struck Huayuan and Mingshui. The emperor sent Xiao Jue to Mingshui, Yan He to Huayuan, and He Yan to the peaceful Rundu with Chu Zhao as her supervisor. Both He Yan and Xiao Jue understood that the emperor was still wary of them being together.
As predicted, Rundu is peaceful, but Huayuan grew dire. He Yan rushed to aid Yan He, and they returned victorious. Moments after reaching the camp, Yan He collapsed from hidden wounds and died as his wife, Xia Cheng Xiu, gave birth to their daughter.
Grief-stricken, He Yan stormed into Chu Zhao’s tent and blamed him for his scheming that scattered the force and cost lives. Chu Zhao reeled under the guilt.

Because Huayuan was saved, the Wutuo concentrated on Mingshui. He Yan led the Fuyue army there in time to help Xiao Jue turn the tide and win the war.
The emperor finally realized his wrong and rewarded He Yan and Xiao Jue with a marriage decree. A month later, they held their wedding ceremony, witnessed by their friends and family. Before the banquet ended, the newlyweds slipped away to watch the moonlight, promising to stay together forever.
What Happened to Chu Zhao on Legend of the Female General Ending?
Chu Zhao secretly worked with He Yan and Xiao Jue to bring down Xu Jing Fu and He Ru Fei. Before the emperor, Chu Zhao proved his loyalty to the throne and also defended He Yan, fearing that the emperor would punish He Yan for secretly hiding her identity as a woman. For this, Chu Zhao was promoted to the Vice Director of the Secretariat.

At the Xu mansion, Chu Zhao saved Xu Ping Ting from imprisonment and took her in. She refused to believe her father guilty and begged Chu Zhao to punish those who had framed Xu Jing Fu. Chu Zhao only keeps Xu Ping Ting to keep Xu Jing Fu’s allies calm.
He later visited Xu Jing Fu and confessed that all he did was for the country. Xu Jing Fu, enraged by his betrayal, ended up dead after he slammed his head against the prison bar. When Xu Ping Ting learned the truth, she realized that Chu Zhao had never loved her. His heart was always with He Yan.
During the lantern festival, Chu Zhao’s hopes were shattered when he saw He Yan and Xiao Jue kiss beneath the plum blossom tree. His hope to be with He Yan was shattered. Driven by obsession, Chu Zhao went to see the emperor. He told him that Feihong and Fengyun cannot be together since they both hold significant military force that could threaten the throne. The emperor believed his words.
The emperor and Chu Zhao stage and act. The emperor summoned Xiao Jue to the palace, and while he was there, Chu Zhao came and asked for a marriage decree from the emperor to make He Yan his wife.
Xiao Jue was angry because He Yan was already his fiancée. The emperor stated that Xiao Jue and He Yan could marry, but Fengyun and Feihong could not. If they insisted, one of them must surrender their military power.
When the marriage edict for him and He Yan was issued, He Yan went to the palace. Chu Zhao was there too. Before the emperor, He Yan declared that she would not marry Xiao Jue, which made Chu Zhao smile triumphantly, until she added that she would not marry him either.
If she cannot be with the one she loves, she will remain alone forever. The emperor agreed to her request, crushing Chu Zhao’s dream.
Outside the palace, Chu Zhao expressed his love for He Yan, but she rejected him coldly. He Yan said that his so-called love was only an ambition in disguise. He Yan walked away after throwing the jade pendant he had given him and said that Chu Zhao has become another Xu Jing Fu.
At the mansion, Xu Ping Ting mocked his unrequited love for He Yan. When he called her laughable, Xu Ping Ting attacked him with a knife. Ying Xiang shielded him and was fatally stabbed.
In her last breath, Ying Xiang said that she only feared Chu Zhao would be alone, and she mustn’t push himself too hard. Xu Pign Ting spat that it was Chu Zhao’s karma to be abandoned by those he loved.
When crises broke out at the border, Chu Zhao urged the emperor to separate Xiao Jue and He Yan’s forces. Xiao Jue was sent to Mingshui, while He Yan was sent to Rundu with Chu Zhao as her supervisor.
Rundu stayed peaceful while Huayuan, under Yan He’s command, was in dire straits. He Yan rushed to aid him and bring Yan He back to Rundu, because his wife was there. But when he entered the camp, Yan He collapsed from a fatal wound and soon died, just as his wife gave birth to a baby girl named Mu Xia.
Witnessing Yan He’s death shook Chu Zhao. He Yan blamed him fiercely. His scheme had scattered forces, led to heavy casualties, and endangered the country.
Only then did Chu Zhao realize that he was wrong and his stubbornness had blinded him. The emperor punished him for selfish desires and repeated discord. Chu Zhao was dismissed from his position and exiled to the border, forbidden to return.
What Happened to He Ru Fei and Xu Jing Fu on Legend of the Female General Ending?
He Ru Fei and Xu Jing Fu’s alliance was ruined after He Yan realized that He Ru Fei possessed solid proof of Xu Jing Fei’s crimes of bribery and corruption. She tricked them and shattered their fragile trust.

Meanwhile, Chu Zhao agreed to cooperate with He Yan and Xiao Jue to bring down Xu Jing Fu. He handed Sun Xiang Fu’s ledger to Sun Liang, urging him to use it both to save his own life and avenge his father.
The emperor rejected Wutuo’s peace proposal, leaving Xu Jing Fu in disarray since he had secretly colluded with them. On Chu Zhao’s advice, he plotted a coup during the winter sacrifice banquet.
During the banquet, after He Yan accused He Ru Fei of three major crimes: stealing General Feihong’s identity, murdering his comrades, and colluding with Wutuo. Li Kuang testified that He Yan was the true General Feihong.
Yang Ming Zhi provided a letter proving He Ru Fei’s involvement in He Yan’s murder attempt. Finally, Tang Jia entered the hall with letters stolen from He Ru Fei’s room, exposing his dealings with Wutuo. She pleaded for justice for He Yan, but after speaking, she vomited blood. The physician revealed she was fatally poisoned. In truth, Tang Jia had poisoned herself so the emperor would believe her testimony.
When Xu Jing Fu tried to defend He Ru Fei, He Yan accused him of being the mastermind. The emperor demanded proof, and Chu Zhao stepped forward to be the witness, presenting the Wutuo’s spy and a correspondence letter between Xu Jing Fu and Maningbu.

Xu Jing Fu refused to surrender, and He Ru Fei ordered the Fuyue soldiers to surround the hall. But to their shock, the Fuyue soldiers who were charging in turned out to be Xiao Jue and his men. Just like that, the tables turned. Xu Jing Fu, He Ru Fei, and the Wutuo envoy found themselves completely surrounded.
Amid the chaos, Chu Zhao begged Xu Jing Fu to repent, but he insisted all he had done was for the sake of the Wei State. By nightfall, He Ru Fei and Xu Jing Fu were imprisoned, and their estates were seized. Only Xu Ping Ting was spared and rescued by Chu Zhao, though she refused to believe her father’s guilt.
Even in prison, He Ru Fei still claimed that He Yan had stolen his name and glory, believing he was the true General Feihong. Xiao Jue refuted him, saying He Yan enlisted in the army twice and earned merits through the battlefield, while He Ru Fei lived off her achievements.
He Yan told He Ru Fei that he never dared to do what she did. And after the poisoning incident, she proved that she, regardless of her name and her gender, would always be General Feihong. Driven mad, He Ru Fei kept calling himself the general.
Chu Zhao also visited Xu Jing Fu. He confessed that his betrayal was for the sake of the country. Xu Jing Fu begged Xiao Jue to care for Xu Ping Ting, but he coldly rejected. Driven by anger, Xu Jing Fu slammed his head against the prison bar and died.

My Two Cents
After watching the ending for the ninth time, I realized that I hate the emperor. Why are the emperors in historical dramas always so easily swayed by the villains? It’s rare to find a just ruler like the one in Love Like The Galaxy. Most of them are just… meh!
I was also heartbroken over Yan He’s death. It hit me so hard that I almost didn’t want to finish this post. But here we are…
So, what about you, dear readers? what did you think about this drama? Did you enjoy it? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments box below. I’ll see you in another post of Drama Review and Ending Explained. Until then, bye bye!
