With a brave smile, she told him she understood a nobleman like him would have his marriage and career arranged by his family. She was already grateful for their friendship and expected nothing more.

Shu Jing Ran was flustered. He suddenly stood and declared he would never marry anyone but her. To him, she was the best girl in the world. He revealed he had asked to be stationed in Lingzhou, and once he left the capital, he would be on his own. It’s a life that free from status and judgment. Meeting Jiang Xu and Ming Tan was the greatest blessing of her once-lonely life. She hoped that when they met again, she would be a better version of herself. Someone worthy of the people who once changed her world.

Lord Zhang reported that Su Wen Chun had carefully removed Su Er Rong’s name from his household registration after her marriage. This was to ensure that if trouble arose in the future, her crimes would not be traced back to him. The Emperor took a different approach and ordered Lord Zhang to investigate every official connected to Su Wen Chun.

After a new round of investigations, Lord Zhang revealed that the man behind Su Er Rong’s operations was none other than Liu Mo, the Vice Minister of Revenue. When the name was announced, Su Wen Chun remained calm. Meanwhile, Liu Mo drew a sharp breath. The Emperor was stunned because Liu Mo had been a promising young official in the court.

Liu Mo stepped forward and pleaded guilty. He had seen enough to realize that Su Wen Chun would not lift a finger to save him. The Emperor stripped him of his title, confiscated his property, and sent him to prison. Liu Mo accepted his fate without protest. But before the guards took him away, he cast a long look at the unmoved Su Wen Chun.

Later, the Emperor investigated Liu Mo’s background and uncovered a tragic past. Liu Mo’s father, a scout, was sentenced to death after failing to deliver an urgent message. That failure led to the death of the late Prince of Ming Cong and his entire Dingbei army.

Before the case could be fully investigated, the scout took his own life. His wife died shortly after, and Liu Mo fled to the capital as an orphan.

The Emperor paid Liu Mo a visit in prison and revealed the truth. Liu Mo’s father had been framed and used as a scapegoat for a young and rising Su Wen Chun. The Emperor urged Liu Mo not to repeat his father’s fate and gave him two days to reconsider his silence and expose Su Wen Chun.

That night, Liu Mo asked to meet Su Wen Chun one last time. Instead of coming himself, Su Wen Chun sent Mr. Si. Liu Mo was stunned because he had believed Mr. Si was long dead. Mr. Si had raised him, trained him, taught him martial arts. He was the closest thing to a father Liu Mo had known. Mr. Si was there to deliver his last meal and say goodbye.

Liu Mo used the moment to press for the truth. When he mentioned his father, Mr. Si’s expression shifted. That single flicker was enough. Now, with the truth laid bare, Liu Mo refused to accept his fate. In fact, he had already confessed Su Wen Chun’s crimes to the Emperor and in return demanded a full investigation into his father’s death to clear his name.

Mr. Si understood immediately that Liu Mo had betrayed Su Wen Chun. Moments later, imperial guards stormed the prison to detain Mr. Si. In the chaos, Mr. Si escaped.

In the end, when Gu Bing Mao marched to the capital, a chaos erupted in the prison. Su Wen Chun and Liu Mo escaped. Liu Mo went straight to Su Wen Chun, determined to take justice into his own hands. Calmly, he served tea as if they were old friends in casual conversation.

Then Liu Mo said he knew who had killed his father. When Liu Mo raised his sword to strike, Mr. Si burst in and intercepted him. Su Wen Chun didn’t stay silent. He tried to flee but Liu Mo stopped him.

To defeat Mr. Si, Liu Mo had to take a deadly blow. With a long sword piercing his chest, Liu Mo still dragged himself toward Su Wen Chun, who was unable to escape due to an injury in his foot. In one swift move, Liu Mo ended Su Wen Chun’s life, before collapsing in front of him, dead.

Wen Zhong joined forced with Haiyou Sect to took over Lingzhou city. Ming Tan was stunned when she learned Wen Zong’s real identity. Wen Zong tried to win her over with lavish gifts. When that failed, he resorted to threats. He wanted Ming Tan to surrender willingly, or he would kill the Feng family and the innocent civilians. Ming Tan refused outright.

After pondering the situation, Ming Tan realized Wen Zong was the real mastermind behind the smuggling operations in Lingzhou. She confronted him and demanded he withdraw his forces and restore peace to the city.

Of course, Wen Zong had no such intentions. Instead, he offered her a twisted proposal. If she come with him to Nanlyu and become his wife, then Lingzhou would prosper under his rule.

Suddenly, chaos erupted outside. Reports came that another army had entered Lingzhou. Wen Zong’s confidence wavered as the commander revealed himself. It was Ming Ting Yuan, leading the disguised forces of Yangxi Prefecture.

The tide turned instantly. Wen Zong was too stunned to react. Meanwhile, Yun Yi, Zhui Yu, and Zhui Feng launched a rescue operation to save General Feng, his son, and the trapped Feng soldiers.

With their strength renewed, the Feng army and Yangxi forces fought together and reclaimed Lingzhou. In a last act of desperation, Wen Zong’s closest guard, Zeng Shu, took Ming Tan hostage. With his sword pressed to her neck, Zeng Shu demanded Ming Ting Yuan to release his master.

Wen Zong, seeing the situation spiraled beyond repair, ordered Zeng Shu to release Ming Tan. But Zeng Shu refused. He intended to trade Ming Tan’s life for Wen Zong’s safety.

But Wen Zong had already lost the will to fight. Zeng Shu, filled with hatred, blamed Ming Tan for their defeat. He declared he would kill her before following his master in death. In that moment, Wen Zong acted, He strikes Zeng Shu down to protect Ming Tan. Zeng Shu died, and silence fell.

On the ending, Wen Zong stared at Ming Tan, with empty eyes. He said that he lost Lingzhou. He has no home to return to. And now, he also lost Ming Tan. With nothing left, he drew his blade and ended his life.

My Musing

What is wrong with Wen Zong? I’ve never seen a prince like him. He infiltrated Great Xian, orchestrated large-scale smuggling, and kept himself hidden all along. That kind of persistence shows incredible determination.

But now, surrounded by enemies, he chooses neither to escape nor to fight. He simply gives up. Honestly, even Liu Yan from The Prisoner of Beauty looked braver than him.
