What Happened to Jiang Xi Chi and Chen Huan Er on Always Home Ending?

At the end of their 4 years at the university, Jiang Xi Chi was busy starting his project, while Chen Huan Er was accepted as a postgraduate student. Despite his hectic schedule, Jiang Xi Chi made sure to attend the graduation ceremony, cherishing the moments he spent with Chen Huan Er and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

With the help of his senior colleagues, Jiang Xi Chi’s Yangwu project was successfully launched. However, the executives wanted Jiang Xi Chi to take his project and transfer to the headquarters in Jing City. In other words, he could officially join the company. However, the thought of living far away from his loved ones for years was something Jiang Xi Chi had never considered before.

To show her support, Chen Huan Er accompanied Jiang Xi Chi to the interview. After hearing the explanations about Huandao, Jiang Xi Chi accepted the offer. He was unexpectedly excited by the new world. Chen Huan Er was happy for him, but at the same time she was sad because of the separation.

After a good conversation with Du Man, Chen Huan Er strengthened her heart and told Jiang Xi Chi that he should stay in Jing City and she would return to Wu’an by herself.

Jiang Xi Chi was afraid that he had made the wrong decision, but Chen Huan Er assured him that they would face the future together. Jiang Xi Chi felt the burden in his heart disappear with her words. But he was still reluctant to let her go.

Jiang Xi Chi, accompanied by Fu Ying and Zhou Ye, moved to Jing City. Huandao has a big plan for Yangwu, but Jiang Xi Chi feels that the transformation would make Yangwu lose its original purpose and function. When he protests, the executive says that the company will give him half a month to come up with a better plan, or he should leave Huandao.

In Wu’an, Chen Huan Er began her postgraduate studies. She joined a laboratory, which to her surprise was the same as Tian Chi’s. Therefore, she would work with him in the future along with another senior named Gao Ang.

When Jiang Xi Chi found out, he became restless, although he tried to hide his uneasiness and continue to support her. He trusted her, but his heart wasn’t at ease.

Chen Huan Er’s experience in the lab wasn’t as smooth as she had hoped. Gao Ang assigned her most of his work, including writing two reports. Chen Huan Er refused, knowing it was inappropriate and could lead to serious consequences if it became known.

Tian Chi stepped in to defend her, but instead of resolving the issue, Gao Ang retaliated by making sure Tian Chi lost his place at an important clinical pharmacy forum.

At that moment, Chen Huan Er realized how naive she had been as a student. The real world was much harsher, and unlike the safety of home and school, it didn’t offer unconditional support.

Chen Huan Er and jiang Xi Chi’s busy work lives made it difficult to maintain communication. During the day they were both too caught up in their responsibilities, and by night they were too exhausted to talk.

The nonstop work and stress begins to take its toll on Chen Huan Er’s body. In Jing City, Jiang Xi Chi also hits a dead end. They had been working tirelessly for days, but there had been no breakthrough in the Yangwu project. So he didn’t know that Chen Hua Er was sick and was taken to the hospital by Tian Chi.

Through a video call, Jiang Xi Chi saw that Tian Chi was also in the hospital with Chen Hua Er, and he was worried. So he rented a car and drove back to Wu’an. In front of the girl’s dormitory, Jiang Xi Chi saw Tian Chi and Chen Huan Er standing together. A rush of frustration, worry, and jealousy surged within him.

Confronted by Jiang Xi Chi’s cold and unfriendly demeanor, Tian Chi shot back, pointing out that as a boyfriend, Jiang Xi Chi hadn’t even known when Chen Huan Er was sick or been there for her during her difficult time. He added that Jiang Xi Chi had no right to stop others from being kind to her. Those words landed like a slap to Jiang Xi Chi’s face.

Chen Huan Er had just entered her room and was sipping a drink when Gao Ang called. He informed her that she needed to go to Tongling Village for a field survey.

Chen Huan Er explained that she was sick and requested a delay, but Gao Ang threatened her, saying that if she refused, she wouldn’t get any credit for her work. He added that he could make such demands because he was in charge. Despite her weak condition, Chen Huan Er had no choice but to agree.

The frustration from Gao Ang’s call quickly vanished when Jiang Xi Chi messaged her, saying he was downstairs. Excited, Chen Huan Er rushed to meet him.

However, Jiang Xi Chi’s mood was far from cheerful. When she asked why he had come back if the proposal wasn’t finished, his anger flared. He snapped that he didn’t want to be the last to know about her condition, and he didn’t want another man accompanying her to the hospital and back to the dormitory.

Chen Huan Er felt as if his words were a reprimand, blaming her. In defense, she retorted that she hadn’t asked Tian Chi to wait for her. It had been his decision to do so.

Under Jiang Xi Chi’s unfriendly gaze and pointed questions, Chen Huan Er grew emotional, feeling as though he no longer trusted her. Their argument escalated, and it became clear that Chen Huan Er was also feeling jealous of Fu Ying.

The lack of communication between them had created distance, and she could only catch glimpses of his life through Fu Ying’s Moments. The argument finally came to an abrupt halt when Jiang Xi Chi’s phone rang. The couple parted ways, both in a bad mood.

The next day, Chen Huan Er went to Tongling Village. She was left alone on the mountain to collect samples while Gao Ang returned to the village to distribute a questionnaire.

It was obvious that Gao Ang didn’t want to do the hard work alone. Chen Huan Er had no choice but to comply. When Jiang Xi Chi heard that there would be a typhoon warning in the mountain, he got worried and went to find Chen Huan Er. As a result, he couldn’t attend the important meeting in Huandao and left Fu Ying in charge.

Meanwhile, the rain poured down as the typhoon drew nearer. Jiang Xi Chi searched for Chen Huan Er on the mountain. In the forest, Jiang Xi Chi suddenly stopped. Old memories resurfaced and if feels like he could see his father right in the place where he died.

Chen Huan Er found Jiang XI Chi, standing absentmindedly. She understood his feelings and reached out to him. She gave him a small bottle of soil that had been burnt years ago. Chen Huan Er told Jiang Xi Chi that while the land may have seemed barren, one day, it would return to its lush state.

That night, their quarrel was finally settled. Jiang Xi Chi admitted that he felt empty inside when he stayed in Jing City. Chen Huan Er confessed that she had felt the same since he left. They spent the night talking about the past, grateful that they had found each other.

The next day, Jiang Xi Chi return to Jing City. As expected, Huandao refused his plan. Therefore he decided to leave the company.

Zhou Ye followed him, only Fu Ying remained because she already has an offer. She stayed with Jiang Xi Chi and Zhou Ye because she wanted to stand by them. In fact, she already knew that no matter how good their plan was, Huandao would still reject it.

Fu Ying explained that the company had given them a 1% chance. However, they were just ordinary people, and miracles didn’t happen to them. But deep down, Fu Ying’s desire to stay was also because she wanted to be with Jiang Xi Chi for as long as possible.

In Wu ‘an, Chen Huan Er, Tian Chi and Gao Ang presented their data. Gao Ang was presenting when Professor Qiu asked if there was anything wrong with the data.

Gao Ang was confident about the data and even stated that he did the analysis. He did not see that the professor was getting impatient. Professor Qiu asked Chen Huan Er and it turned out that Gao Ang had opened the wrong file…😅

When Professor Qiu asked Chen Huan Er about the data, she bluntly said that the experiment was done by her and Tian Chi, Gao Ang was just giving guidance. The professor rebuked Gao Ang and ordered Chen Huan Er to explain the data.

After the presentation, Chen Huan Er found Jiang Xi Chi waiting for him. He told Chen Huan Er that he would be staying in Wu’an from now on. Chen Huan Er was so happy that when she heard that Jiang Xi Chi was still renting the same old house, she immediately packed her things and moved in with him.

That night, Jiang Xi Chi and Chen Huan Er shared a quiet, intimate evening together.

The New Year arrived, and Jiang Xi Chi and Chen Huan Er attended a small reunion with Song Cong, Du Man, Li Tian, Liao Xin Yan, and Qi Qi. Everyone had made progress in their lives and careers, and the reunion was filled with warm memories and shared stories.

Two days after their meeting, Jiang Xi Chi invited all his friends to his house. He showed them the old footages he made years ago, where each of them talked to their future selves. These footages bring back memories to each of them.

The young Chen Huan Er was worried because she still hadn’t found her dream and goals. The present Chen Huan Er told her that she didn’t have to be afraid, just be flexible and decide what to do when the time comes. Life is not a test and there are no standard answers. She was content with who she was, surrounded by the people she loved and who loved her back.

On the end, after her friends left, Chen Huan Er went to sleep. When she woke up, Jiang Xi Chi took her to make dumplings. On the computer screen, young Jiang Xi Chi was talking to the camera. He said that change is constant in life. But the trace of people from the past will follow and accompany him to a faraway place.

In the relationship, Qi Qi felt that she had lost herself because she had changed so much for him. In her eyes, Song Cong was so dazzling that she could only stand in his shadow. And now she was tired of chasing after him.

Song Cong also felt the same way as Qi Qi, so he could understand her feelings. At the moment, it was Song Cong who was chasing after her. While her life seemed so imaginative and exciting, his life seemed so mundane.

That night, Qi Qi had an epiphany. She realized that she had become like her mother, who used the guise of love to force them to do what she wanted. Qi Qi didn’t want to become that person.

Meanwhile, Song Cong was beginning to face the harsh realities of real world. He witnessed a friend fail an internship interview, which made him reflect on his own future. He started looking for a part-time job to save some money before graduation. And that’s how he met Du Man.

Song Cong remembered that she once said that university is different from high school. He shouldn’t just study. Instead, he should take a part-time job and think of it as an internship. The part-time job didn’t work out well. Song Cong was fired by his student.

Song Cong, on the other hand, start to realize that the real world was cruel. He saw his friend failed internship interview and it makes him thinking. He started to find a part time job so he could save some money before graduation. And that’s the way he met Du Man.

Song Cong remembered that she once said the university was different from high schoold. He mustn’t just study. Instead, he should take some part time job and consider it as internship. The part time job didn’t work well. Song Cong was fired by his student.

In fact, after Song Cong entered the university, he realized that there were people who were better than him. At present, Song Cong is no longer number one. When he learned that the number one in his class was a genius who rarely attended class, he gave up his obsession with being number one and accepted that no one always gets what they want in life.

Song Cong and Du Man both interned at the same hospital, and to their surprise, they were also neighbors. Being a doctor was no easy job, and they were both deeply affected when they witnessed a patient’s death.

That night, they drank to numb their grief, and in a moment of vulnerability, they ended up kissing. But after that, they continued to eat as if nothing had happened.

Jiang Xi Chi and Chen Huan Er come to Jing City for an interview. They have dinner with Song Cong and Du Man and later spend the night at their houses. Jiang Xi Chi and Chen Huan Er were suspicious of Song Cong and Du Man’s relationship. But Song Cong and Du Man were too busy with their own lives to start a relationship.

After the New Year, Song Cong visited Jiang Xi Chi’s house with their friends. In front of the old footage which he had made years ago, he reflected, saying that the more precious something is, the less you can acquire it by sheer effort.

For Song Cong, growing up meant accepting the fact that he was an ordinary person. He felt sorry for disappointing the perfect version of himself from the past, but now, he was ready to let go of that past and step forward on his own path. That day, Song Cong left the house with a genuine smile, no longer burdened by the expectations of his former self.

Meanwhile, Qi Qi had settled abroad. She was about to publish her first book and had met a boyfriend at an art exhibition. When she saw the old footage of herself from high school, she wondered aloud whether she had become her mother’s pride. But it didn’t matter anymore. At the end, she understood her mother, and most importantly, she understood herself. Qi Qi had found happiness by taking control of her own life.

My Musing

Well, I must say, the ending of Always Home turned out to be different from what I expected. It felt so… ordinary. There was no perfect “happily ever after” or walking off into the sunset.

Yet, Jiang Xi Chi, Chen Huan Er, Qi Qi, Song Cong, and Du Man all found contentment in the present moment. They knew there were still many obstacles ahead, but as long as they maintained a positive mindset, the future didn’t seem so daunting after all.
