Dear readers… life has been a bit hectic lately. There are too many things to do and too many dramas to watch. Twenty-four hours simply isn’t enough, and I’ve been hoping some dramas would wrap up faster. Well, not because I didn’t enjoy them, but because my watchlist keeps growing while my free time keeps shrinking.

At this point, choosing a drama to watch feels like a serious commitment. But enough about my daily struggles. Let’s dive into what really matters today, this My Page in the 90s drama review. I hope you enjoy it, dear readers! Happy reading!

My Page in the 90s Drama Review

The Synopsis

Lin Huan Er is a modern woman who works as a love advice streamer. One minute she was giving relationship tips online, the next she found herself trapped inside the story. Then she began her journey in a story filled with dramatic misunderstandings and over-the-top plot twists. All while fulfilling the task given by the system.

There, she met Gao Hai Ming, a classic romance-novel CEO. He’s the kind of person who looks gentle, polite, and distant on the surface. But deep down inside, Gao Hai Ming has his own ambition and is way sharper than he lets the world see.

Lin Huan Er was late to realize that her feelings for Gao Hai Ming started to grow. Now she was caught between two timelines. Lin Huan Er must decide whether she wants to leave or stay.

The Review

This is the third month in a row that I’ve written a review of Chen Xing Xu’s drama. It began in December 2025 when I reviewed Love on Turquoise Land. In January, it was Shine on Me. And now, in February, it’s My Page in the 90s. I had to admit that Chen Xing Xu has completely won my heart. BIG TIME.

To be honest, I didn’t really know much about Chen Xing Xu before. I just properly noticed him during my binge sessions of The Starry Love and Our Interpreter.

Later, I tried watching Beautiful Lie, but I dropped it because the story didn’t really work for me. Only then I start curious about his acting career. I was surprised when learning that Chen Xing Xu has started acting in the age of 3, therefor he has a very long filmography.

Yes, you read it right. The age of three. He was already making money while I’m still a full-time chaotic toddler. 😆

Over this past three months, Chen Xing Xu’s popularity has grown even more after his drama marathon with Love on the Turquoise Land, Love Between Lines, and My Page in the 90s. Although he did great on all dramas, I personally enjoyed Love on the Turquoise Land the most.

Why? Because the story felt stronger and was much more engaging compared to Love Between Lines and My Page in the 90s. And I have to say, I really like seeing him paired with Dilraba Dilmurat. They share a similar mature aura that works beautifully on screen.

However, in My Page in the 90s (which initially has titled A Sudden Love), the chemistry between Cheng Xing Xu and Wang Yu Wen felt more natural. That might be because they have known each other for years. They both studied at Beijing Dance Academy Affiliated High School, so their real-life friendship likely helped create the smooth interaction on screen.

Who could forget their playful interaction with Zhou Ye during the 2025 Tencent Star Awards? 😂

Therefore, based on the chemistry alone, this drama was already worth watching. The acting was solid too since Chen Xing Xu and Wang Yu Wen clearly know what they’re doing.

However, strong acting and naturel chemistry didn’t really help when, at a certain point, the plot seemed to lose it strength and start to crumbling down all the way into the ending. Perhaps the story needed more episodes to develop properly.

Cdramaland never runs out of imaginative concepts. There were many interesting stories to choose. Transmigration and time travel stories appear everywhere.

You could find it in dramas such as Story of Kunning Palace, Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, The Romance of Tiger and Rose, A Dream within a Dream, or When Destiny Brings the Demon. All of them explore the variations of entering novels, scripts, or game worlds.

Then there time travel favourites like Joy of Life, Reset, Shining for One Thing, Scent of Time, and Summit of Our Youth. I personally like all kinds of transmigration and time travelling plot. That was one of the main reasons I pressed the play button for My Page in the 90s.

Chinese writers truly have imaginations that operate on a different level. 😁

My Page in the 90s drama was adapted from Bye, Wild Weasel (Zai Jian Ye You Shu) by Hong Kong novelist, Zhang Xiao Xian. I didn’t read the novel before watching the show. But after finishing all 24 episodes, I searched for the English translation online and gave it a try. And honestly, the novel was more interesting. 😉

But for now, let’s focus on the drama.

My Page in the 90s started off strong. It didn’t take long before Lin Huan Er found herself inside the story. Naturally, she was shocked and tried to return to her world by banging her head against the windows.

That failed, of course. Later, she learned about the system, the rules, the consequences, and the mission. This is a common setup for a transmigration story. You can also find this kind of setup in Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, including the hate-to-love percentage mechanic. Both dramas have it.

The pacing was good with hints of comedy here and there. You wouldn’t easily get bored in the beginning. The story was solid when you only focused on the romance part.

But if you pay closer attention to the background story, especially the business parts other elements outside Lin Huan Er and Gao Hai Ming’s story, you might start to notice some loopholes. I also had a few questions that remained unanswered in the end of the drama.

The first thing that I didn’t really understand is the wild weasel aircraft part. In the beginning, Lin Huan Er said that the aircraft model symbolized love. She said it looked exquisite but has a fatal flaw.

You have to assemble it yourself and it’s incredibly fragile. This clearly reflected in Lin Huan Er’s journey in the novel world. She has to work really hard to earn Gao Hai Ming’s love. 😆

Yet, I still feel like I’m missing something here. The wild weasel seemed like it should carry deeper meaning, but I couldn’t fully grasp it. Maybe I was too slow to understand. Or maybe the symbolism wasn’t explored deeply enough. Dear readers, if you have any idea about this, please enlighten me. 🥺

Then the business storyline seemed like a supporting device to showcase Gai Hai Ming’s talent and vision. It highlights his strong business acumen. Giving him a way to develop as a creative visioner who wanted to break the status quo.

However, it never truly explores the complexity of the business world. The narrative only skimmed the surface. In comparison, I had to give a thumb up for Shine on Me. Their business arc was better than this drama.

The romance between Zhu Meng Meng and Hu Tie Han also feel underdeveloped. Their story has potential. Zhu Meng Meng’s simple character contrasted with Hu Tie Han’s emotional burden. This could provide a strong foundation for building a second love story.

As for Ou Xiao Jue, the villain. I need more of him. I barely saw what he was doing in the UK. Most of his overseas presence was told through the scene of he talks on a landline phone.

They even gave him an ostentatious rococo style telephone, to give the impression that he was in Europe. The phone was so ornate that it looked like has escaped from the Louvre. 😆

The ending of this drama was predictably happy. But it leaves a very large question mark. And all you can do now is speculating. 🙃

The Story – A Quiet Revolution

I love watching drama packed with social issues. If you read my modern drama reviews, you’ll know I’ve written quite a lot about them. This one is no exception. And for the first time, my focus is not mainly on the romance, but on the issues.

My Page in the 90s Drama Review - poster 2

The story of My Page in the 90s not only about Lin Huan Er’s love mission towards Gao Hai Ming. Or about Gao Hai Ming trying to change the direction of Letao’s business. At its core, the drama explore the collision between Lin Huan Er’s modern mindset and the deeply ingrained traditional norms of the 90s.

Li Huan Er didn’t belong in that era. She came from a time where technology is everywhere. Communication and information were easy to access. Smartphones are essential. Social media shapes daily interactions.

Streaming replaces physical media. People don’t always need to physically present to see each other because video calls bridged the distance. You could tell whether someone had read your text, ignored it, or left you on seen.

Back then, things were different. Presence mattered more because there was no digital substitute for it. Communication required patience. If you send a message, you had to wait. You had no way of knowing whether the message was received, misunderstood, or simply forgotten.

Because technology shaped daily life differently, the cultural value and mindset were different too. This is the most significant things that differ Lin Huan Er and the other characters. The 90s characters were taught to endure, to adapt, and to fulfil their roles without questioning the system too loudly.

Gao Hai Ming and his mother were a good example. If they were living in today’s world, Gao Hai Ming might have walked away from his father’s control and built his own brand instead of trying to change Letao. His mother might have sought help instead of silently enduring her husband’s suppression.

We, modern people, really should be grateful to live in an era where information and support are easily accessible. There is more understanding around mental health issues nowadays. That alone changes everything.

Back in the 90s, someone’s identity was mainly shaped by the family expectations, community standards and social roles. It was hard to escape from the thought of “what will people say?”. It wasn’t just a sentence. It was a warning. Sacrifice was normal. Being different felt risky. Many people chose to fit in because it was safer, not because it made them happy.

Surely it still happens now. Social pressure didn’t disappear. It just changed form. But today, more people are starting to question it. More people are realizing that living for others’ approval is exhausting. And that happiness didn’t depend on others or someone else’s opinion. It depends on yourself. You are the one who decided to be happy or not.

Another issues the drama touches, aside from toxic relationships, was the social stigma surrounding women’s body. Gao Hai Ming’s father was strongly opposed his son’s idea to produce sanitary pads. He found it embarrassing and thought it would damage the company’s reputation, as well as his and his son’s.

However, Gao Hai Ming believed that innovation was essential. Developing a new product was the first step to preventing Letao from declining. He rejected the idea of relying on funding from Fuchuang, which his father supported.

And it also the reason why Mr. Gao was bent to have Gao Hai Ming marrying Xie Wan Jun. Meanwhile, Gao Hai Ming wanted Letao to stand on its own feet and fight with its own strength. That was his ambition.

But behind the profit driven ambition, Gao Hai Ming has another goal. He told Dr. Wei Da Zhuang that he wanted to change the public perception and attitudes about menstruation.

If Letao could produce its own female product line, it could also promote public education and awareness. He wanted people to stop using euphemism like “that time of the month” or “Aunt Flow” and start to use the word, menstruation.

In the past, menstruation was often treated as something shameful and inappropriate to speak about openly. Sanitary pads were hidden in the plastic bads, purchased discreetly, and rarely discussed even within families.

Many men, including husband, father, brother, or lover, felt embarrassed to buy menstrual products. Menstruation was more like a taboo or impurities, rather than a normal and natural biological process.

This is what makes this drama stand out. It addresses an issue that is rarely explored openly. Even in Zhao Lu Si’s Hidden Love, Sang Yan and Duan Jia Xu were embarrassed and confused when it comes to buy sanitary pads for Sang Zhi. Meanwhile, Sang Zhi also thought that it was embarrassing to let Duan Jia Xu knew about her menstruating.

At this point, I can help but fall in love with Gao Hai Ming’s character. 😁😁

The Story – Mission Possible: Fall in Love

The modern Lin Huan Er clearly despised the vintage version of Lin Huan Er in the novel. She was the definition of hopelessly love-struck. Yes. Hopeless and completely blinded. She was beyond saving.

My Page in the 90s Drama Review - poster 3

No one could bring her back to her senses, not even her family. The novel version of Lin Huan Er was so blindly devoted that she willingly worked like a slave to pay for Ou Xiao Jue’s tuition and living expenses in the UK. While in reality, he was busy spending her money and cheating on her.

Yet, because he was overseas, nobody knows the truth. To Zhu Meng Meng and Hu Tie Han, Lin Hua Er and Ou Xiao Jue still looked like a dream couple that made them envious.

The modern Lin Huan Er, on the other hand, believed that love was not a necessity. As she said, “It’s merely a little dessert after the main course”. She chose independence and preferred to rely on herself. The vintage Lin Huan Er was the opposite of her.

Not gonna lie, but I also blame Zhu Meng Meng and her so-called “perfect relationship goal” about this. At the beginning of the drama, she kept pushing Lin Huan Er to Ou Xiao Jue. It was obvious that Zhu Meng Meng has projecting her own fantasy to her friend, especially since she was stuck in a one-sided love with Hu Tie Han.

The relationship between Lin Huan Er and Gao Hai Ming follows the classic enemies-to-lovers path. Gao Hai Ming initially resented her blunt and reckless behaviour.

I genuinely hoped he would fall for her because of her personality and strength, not just her good looks. However, the drama wanted to emphasize physical attraction. You could see it in the scene when Gao Hai Ming was stunned to see the beautiful Lin Huan Er hanging outside the high-rise office window.

Well, there was also a chance that he was stunned because she was HANGING OUTSIDE A HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS. 😂

But what truly convinced Gao Hai Ming, though, was when Lin Huan Er defended him in front of his father. Gao Hai Ming didn’t dare to argue with his father directly, but Lin Huan Er did so effortlessly. She believed in his abilities, in his vision, and most importantly, she truly understood him.

Lin Huan Er, who did not believe in love and was content with her solitude, suddenly felt that falling in love was a natural and not something you can control. Gradually, her frozen heart began to melt. That was the time when she realized that she was fallen in love.

In the beginning of her journey, Lin Huan Er’s relationship with Ou Xiao Jue was bound to be broken. If the system didn’t forbid her from breaking up, she would done it the first time. Unfortunately, the system was so ridiculous that it wanted the man to initiate the breakup.

As if a woman couldn’t leave a cheating boyfriend on her own. This is the most frustrating part of the story. But I couldn’t help laughing when Lin Huan Er tricked the system by sending 10,000 in Vietnamese Dong instead of 10,000 Yuan to Ou Xiao Jue. Because of the currency difference, she basically sent him less than 10 yuan for his living expenses at the UK. Smart girl! 🫡

As for Gao Hai Ming, before he met Lin Huan Er, he was honestly pitiful. His father tried to force him into an arranged marriage solely for business profit. He did everything to force his son, including using media to pressure him publicly.

And Gao Hai Ming couldn’t do anything. I hated the fact that Gao Hai Ming looked very weak and powerless when his father brought up marriage with Xie Wan Jun.

Overall, the romance part was satisfying. It wasn’t exactly a slow burn romance, but I enjoy the banter and the jealousy moments. It was refreshing to see Gao Hai Ming fall first, especially since Lin Huan Er treated her mission like a game and was emotionally slower to catch up.

And as a bonus, this drama generously included a glimpse of Chen Xing Xu’s muscular abs. Let’s just sat the camera didn’t waste the opportunity. 😁

The Visuals – Short Letter for the Directors

I love the part when they added those animations on the pager and on the building. It was so cute. The costumes were fun too. Lin Huan Er’s costumes really stood out. Bold pattern, bright colors, no hesitation.

Especially when she wore the brown leather jacket paored with the flared distressed jeans? So effortlessly cool. I would absolutely try that look if I didn’t live in a tropical country. Here, wearing a leather jacket means you only planned to stay inside an air-conditioned building all day. 🫠

Now, Gao Hai Ming’s styling. The turtleneck under the shirt UNDER the suit?? I’m so sorry but that layering gave me instant suffocation. I respect the decision. But I think I’ll pass. 😆

And can we talk about the car ride scenes? Those were rough. Dear Directors, I know you can do better than that. I’m begging you. 😭

The Characters

Lin Huan Er (Played by Wang Yu Wen)

In her own world, Lin Huan Er works as a love advice streamer. From the way she banters with others, you can see that she’s smart and resourceful. She adapts quickly, just like any other modern person.

With her background in psychology and her interest in Public Relations, she managed to read people accurately, control conversation with ease, and people couldn’t help but trust her. She is good at her job and very creative in finding solutions.

Lin Huan Er approached the new world and the people inside it with a strategic and analyse her situations with modern dating rules. Lin Huan Er can be calculative. And sometimes she was a little too confident, which occasionally lead to a total defeat that hilariously backfired to her.

Lin Huan Er is a very good with words. She is eloquent and quick thinking. She also an optimist person, persistent, and determined. Whenever she faces trouble, she believes that the answer is just right around the corner.

Gao Hai Ming (Played by Chen Xing Xu)

Gao Hai Ming is Letao’s General Manager. As the only heir of the company, his father places a high expectation on him. But Gao Hai Ming always has his own ideas and ambitions. He dislike being controlled, especially when it comes to marriage.

When he and his father were arguing, the only one who could make him step back is his mother, simply because he cares about her. Even so, behind his cold and serious façade, Gao Hai Ming carries old wounds that quietly shape his reserved personality.

As a businessman, Gao Hai Ming inherited his father’s strong business instinct. He is smart, visioner, and very calculative. There were still a playful side of him, but his composed and disciplined nature keep it hidden. Only those who truly know him, like his assistant, can sense his mood and guess his emotions accurately.

Hu Tie Han (Played by Kido Ma)

Hu Tie Han is Gao Hai Ming’s only close friend. He works as a traffic officer and is known for his serious nature. Around his male friends, Hu Tie Han appeared relaxed and carefree.

But whenever he was with Zhu Meng Meng, he turned nervous and flustered. He seemed intimidated by her frankness and impulsiveness. In truth, he is simply insecure and afraid of disappointing her.

Zhu Meng Meng (Played by Zeng Meng Xue)

Unlike Lin Huan Er, who came from a humble background, Zhu Meng Meng is the heiress of a wealthy family. She has the ability to be a businesswoman, yet she chose to pursue art instead.

Aside from drawing comics and writing stories, Zhu Meng Meng is also good at singing. Zhu Meng Meng can be naïve and dreamy sometimes. However, she is kind, empathetic, and sincere. Her only weakness is that she becomes stubborn once she falls in love.

Ou Xiao Jue (Played by Yu Xiang)

Ou Xiao Jue is the novel version of Lin Huan Er’s boyfriend. They started dating in high school and stayed together for seven years. To outsiders, they were the perfect couple.

But once he went abroad, his true personality slowly revealed itself. He is manipulative, selfish, greedy, and opportunistic. It’s not wrong to call him a gold digger. Ou Xiao Jue is good at persuading. Or else, Lin Huan Er wouldn’t have worked tirelessly to support him. She did it because she believed in him and the future he promised.

The Conclusion

My Page in the 90s is a light romance drama to wind down after a busy day. This drama is a good choice if you don’t want to spend too much time in front of the screen since it only has 24 episodes.

However, if you like to analyse your drama, you might want to skip this one. The story’s premise was interesting, but the storytelling wasn’t strong enough to fully support it.

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed watching this drama. The story was light and easy to digest. The acting was solid, and the chemistry was strong.
