Wei Ling was sent on an expedition to quell the chaos at the border. Before he left, Wei Ling entrusted Yi Ning with their home. The Duke of Ying’s mansion continued to operate normally until a letter arrived from the border. It said that the Duke of Ying and his 20,000 soldiers had fallen into a trap.

The soldiers nearly died, while Wei Ling disappeared after a sandstorm. The news shocked the family and the entire capital, except for Chancellor Wang. However, he was puzzled because things were going so smoothly for him. He didn’t realize that he had fallen into Luo Shan Yuan’s trap.

The emperor had long been suspicious of Wang Yuan. However, it was not easy to catch him in the act. Luo Shen Yuan had been working for the emperor, and he also cooperated with Wei Ling to expose Wang Yuan’s crime.

Meanwhile, Wei Ling’s disappearance opened up an opportunity for Wang Yuan to frame him for treason. His trusted commander, Liang, went with the Imperial Guards to surround the Wei Mansion. They intended to conduct a search and plant evidence that would lead to the accusation.

However, Liang didn’t expect that Yi Ning was a fierce woman who wouldn’t back down. When he resorted to violence, Lu Jia Xue arrived to protect Yi Ning. He almost managed to send the guards away when Luo Shen Yuan and Wang Yuan arrived. Luo Shen Yuan was arguing with Yi Ning because she refused to cooperate.

Luo Shen Yuan pointed his sword at Yi Ning. Seeing that her life was in danger, Lu Jia Xue also pointed his sword at Luo Shen Yuan. It didn’t take long. Suddenly, Luo Shen Yuan changed the direction of his sword. With a quick move, the sword landed on Wang Yuan’s neck.

All of a sudden, Wei Ling arrived with an edict detailing the crimes Wang Yuan had committed. Luo Shen Yue confessed that he had deliberately exposed his smuggling activities to Wang Yuan. His intention was clear.

Luo Shen Yuan wanted Wang Yuan to use his Longquan Trading House’s ships so that his men could catch Wang Yuan’s men red-handed. After listening to the explanation, Wang Yuan understood that the disappearance of Wei Ling and his soldiers was just a ploy to trick him.

Duke Ying managed to wipe out the hideout of Wang Yuan’s accomplices. Wang Yuan never thought that he would be tricked by someone like Luo Shen Yuan. Afterward, he and his accomplices were taken to the prison.

While imprisoned, Wang Yuan didn’t confess to anything major except for confessing to some of the henchmen. He was still hoping that Lu Jia Xue would help him out of his predicament. Luo Shen Yuan told Wei Ling that Lu Jia Xiu might not be involved in treason, but he was involved in smuggling.

All the while, Lu Jia Xue was afraid that the reopening of Chen Jiu Heng’s case would expose his crime. Therefore, he tried to eliminate all of Luo Shen Yuan’s seniors and juniors. Luo Shen Yuan and Wei Ling believed that Wang Yuan still had some backup plans.

While the case was still under investigation, Luo Shen Yuan came to see Wei Ling. This time, he came with an engagement letter. Wei Ling refused to accept it. He only said that it should be done after the case was over. Wei Ling changed his mind after Luo Shen Yuan said he worried about Yi Ning’s reputation.

Luo Shen Yuan told Wei Ling that if anyone asked about their relationship, Wei Ling should say that Yi Ning and Luo Shen Yuan had been engaged since they were children. Since they were too young, no one but Old Madam Luo and Wei Ling knew about it.

Meanwhile, Luo Mansion was busy with the wedding of Luo Yi Xiu and Lin Mao, and after the wedding was over, Yi Ning and Luo Shen Yuan sat down to talk about their own engagement. Yi Ning told Luo Shen Yuan that if he wanted to marry her, she had conditions that he had to meet.

First, Yi Ning said that she would not blindly follow everything he said or did. She also said that she is not a stay at home wife and that Luo Shen Yuan must listen to everything she says. Second, Luo Shen Yuan shouldn’t go to brothels or take concubines. And third, he must not keep any secret fund. Luo Shen Yuan agreed to her terms.

Luo Shen Yuan wanted to close the case as soon as possible. He asked Wang Yuan to give him the names of the members of his faction. Not long after that, there was a big purge in the capital. Lu Jia Xue was worried that he might be next.

Luo Shen Yuan thought that everything he did would push Lu Jia Xue into a corner. But he didn’t expect that Lu Jia Xue would ask the emperor to allow him to marry Yi Ning. Fortunately, Luo Shen Yuan had already seen this and had already talked to Wei Ling about the engagement.

So Wei Ling told the emperor that Yi Ning was already engaged and waiting for her wedding. Because of this, Yi Ning and Luo Shen Yuan need to be hurried to get married. Otherwise, the Weis and the Luos would be guilty of deceiving the emperor.

On her wedding day, Yi Ning looked radiant and happy. She had finally married Luo Shen Yuan. But before the wedding night began, news came that Wang Yuan and his accomplices had escaped from prison. Yi Ning urged Luo Shen Yuan to leave. During the search, he met Lu Jia Xue, who took the imperial guards to assist in the search.

Luo Shen Yuan felt that something was amiss. But by the time he realized it, Luo Shen Yuan had already fallen into Lu Jia Xue’s trap, and Wang Yuan was killed by his sword. Before he died, Wang Yuan whispered a word into Luo Shen Yuan’s ear. He said, “Wedding Gift”.

Luo Shen Yuan was puzzled. But he got distracted when a guard reported that Luo mansion was caught in a fire. And the fire was coming from Haitang Yuan, where Yi Ning was staying. Luo Shen Yuan rushed back home only to find corpses, and one of them was Yi Ning. Wei Ling and Old Madam Wei also arrived. They were shocked when Old Madam Wei recognized the bracelet on the hand of one of the corpses. It was Yi Ning.

Wei Ling couldn’t stand the shock and had a heart attack. Luo Shen Yuan left the courtyard and hid in his secret room. He pondered over Wang Yuan’s last word and suddenly understood the meaning. Later, he found the letter on one of his wedding gifts. On the other hand, when he saw that the bracelet was on the wrong hand, Luo Shen Yuan believed that Yi Ning was still alive and it must be Lu Jia Xue who kidnapped her.

And indeed, it was Lu Jia Xue who took Yi Ning and her maids from the courtyard. He intended to take Yi Ning to the border with him. He took Yi Ning to a place that he had arranged according to Yi Ning’s preference which she had told him during their stay in the side yard. However, Yi Ning is still determined to refuse him, saying that she only loves Luo Shen Yuan.

Luo Shen Yuan and his sharp mind managed to find Yi Ning. But Lu Jia Xue had already taken precautions and had them surrounded by guards. So Luo Shen Yuan mentioned the evidence letter and they agreed to meet at Bugui Cliff the next day for the exchange.

The next day, Lu Jia Xue had his men encircle the cliff, but he didn’t know that Wei Ling had also set up precautions for him. The meeting ended abruptly after Lu Jia Xue died shielding Yi Ning from an arrow.

After everything was over, Luo Shen Yuan and Yi Ning resumed their delayed wedding ceremony. They donned their wedding dresses once again and started their wedding night all over again. They finally began their married life in peace. A year later, Yi Ning gave birth to a son named Bao. His arrival brought joy to the Luos and the Weis.

And by that time, Wang Yuan’s henchmen were ready to search the Wei residence. They were trying to set Wei Ling up as a traitor. Although the situation was dire, Yi Ning refused to leave. She promised her father that she would guard their home until he returned.

Yi Ning’s stubbornness made Lu Jia Xue worried. However, he could not force her to go with him. When Yi Ning was confronted by Captain Liang and the Imperial Guard, he could only protect her by using the emperor’s name to threaten the commander. Before he could go to the palace, chancellor Wang Yuan arrived in the company of Luo Shen Yuan.

Lu Jia Xue listened to the argument between Yi Ning and Luo Shan Yuan. When the situation escalated and Luo Shen Yuan pointed his sword at her, Lu Jia Xue protected Yi Ning by pointing his sword at Luo Shen Yuan. Lu Jia Xue was puzzled when Luo Shen Yuan suddenly drew his sword and pointed it at Wang Yuan.

After a while, Lu Jia Xue finally understood that everything was under Luo Shen Yuan’s control, and an uneasy feeling crept into his heart.

Before the guards took him to the prison, Wang Yuan called Lu Jia Xue. He hinted that he still had a letter that could be used to prove Lu Jia Xue’s involvement in the smuggling.

Wang Yuan deliberately mentioned it so that Lu Jia Xue would help him out of his predicament. Lu Jia Xue’s heart trembled as she knew that Wang Yuan was planning to pull him down as well.

After Wang Yuan was imprisoned, Lu Jia Xue took his guards to confiscate everything in the Wang residence. He also took the opportunity to find the evidence letter. His heart sank when he realized that Wang Yuan wasn’t lying to him. Lu Jia Xue went to see Wang Yuan in prison. He asked him to do something.

The next day, Lu Jia Xue went to see Wei Ling. Subtly, Wei Ling hinted that he already knew that Lu Jia Xue was connected to Wang Yuan. Wei Ling wanted him to turn himself in, but Lu Jia Xue refused. So Wei Ling severed their relationship and told Lu Jia Xue that they should meet less often.

To save himself, Lu Jia Xue went to the emperor for an audience. He accused Wang Yuan of crimes and confessed that Wang Yuan had tried to get his side in the smuggling case. Lu Jia Xue also said that he pretended to join him to get all the evidence of Wang Yuan’s crime. He also handed over all the profits from the smuggling to the emperor.

As a reward, Lu Jia Xue asked the emperor to allow him to marry Yi Ning. But Wei Ling refused. He explained to the emperor that Yi Ning and Luo Shen Yuan had been engaged for a long time and their wedding would be held next month. This made Lu Jia Xue furious.

Lu Jia Xue, whose proposal was rejected, went to Yi Ning and asked her if she really wanted to marry Luo Shen Yuan. Yi Ning stated that she would only marry Luo Shen Yuan. Yi Ning then told Lu Jia Xue that he was a selfish person who only thought about himself. Furious, Lu Jia Xue said that whoever was against him would not end well.

The emperor assigned Lu Jia Xue to a garrison duty for the next three years. Lu Jia Xue was already expecting this because he knew that even after he reported Wang Yuan, the emperor still didn’t trust him. With no choice, Lu Jia Xue decided to make a move. On Yi Ning’s wedding day, he made a thorough plan.

Lu Jia Xue made a deal with Wang Yuan. He would help him escape from prison. In exchange for the letter of evidence that was currently in Wang Yuan’s possession. Wang Yuan promised that his servant would bring the letter to the designated place the next day. However, Lu Jia Xue decided to kill Wang Yuan, and he arranged for Wang Yuan to die on Luo Shen Yua’s sword.

Lu Jia Xue had planned everything. After Wang Yuan escaped from prison, Luo Shen Yuan would leave the bridal chamber. At that time, he got the chance to take Yi Ning away with him. To make everyone believe that Yi Ning was gone, he burned the courtyard and put Yi Ning’s bracelet in one of the corpses. Unbeknownst to him, Luo Shen Yuan knew that Yi Ning was still alive because of the bracelet.

Knowing Luo Shen Yuan’s mind, Lu Jia Xue correctly guessed that he would come to rescue Yi Ning. When Luo Shen Yuan said that he couldn’t escape punishment because he had Wang Yuan’s evidence, Lu Jia Xue’s expression changed. He told Luo Shen Yuan to bring the evidence to Bugui Cliff the next day.

But Lu Jia Xue didn’t play fair. He surrounded the cliff with his men, intending to kill Luo Shen Yuan, and told Yi Ning that the reason he asked for the evidence was because he wanted her to see how easily Luo Shen Yuan’s mind could be swayed.

But suddenly, an arrow was shot to the ground near his leg. It was Wei Ling. He shouted that he had already given the Emperor the real evidence, and now Lu Jia Xue should surrender. Unwilling to accept his fate, Lu Jia Xue took Yi Ning as a hostage.

Out of everyone’s sight, Wang Yuan’s personal guard was near the cliff. He took an arrow and aimed it at Lu Jia Xue, he didn’t care if the arrow would hurt Yi Ning as well. All he cares about is avenging the death of his master.

Lu Jia Xue sensed the arrow. He let Yi Ning go and shielded her from the arrow. It pierced through his body and injured him severely. Before he died, Lu Jia Xue told Yi Ning that he didn’t mean to hurt her. Seeing her worried face, Lu Jia Xue died contentedly.

My Musing

Okay… I think the ending was a bit rushed. Did you feel the same, dear readers? It didn’t take long for Luo Shen Yuan to find out where Yi Ning was being kept by Lu Jia Xue.

Since the beginning of this drama, Luo Shen Yuan was said to be so powerful. He could master literature and martial arts. However, no one explained how he did it. In the novel, it was said that although his mother was born with a low status, she was highly intelligent and very cunning. So it makes sense why he was so smart. But no one said that in the drama.

And how could someone who was outcast by family members and had no access to resources manage to build a trading business? And a big one at that. This has become one of my major concerns. Yet there were many dramas with overpowered characters. For example, the Jun Jiu Ling drama. In comparison, the story of The Rise of Ning was more acceptable and enjoyable.

Anyway… I hope this The Rise of Ning Ending Explained post will help you. And if you have an opinion about it, please feel free to write a comment. We’d love to read it. That’s all for today, I’ll see you in another post of Drama Review and Ending Explained post. Bye bye!
