Amidst a Snowstorm of Love Synopsis

Yin Guo is a talented professional Nine Ball player who came to Hel to compete in an international billiard tournament. However, a snowstorm caused Yin Guo and her cousin to be stranded in a small bar. That night, Lin Yi Yang, a postgraduate student, also happened to be at the bar. They made an instant connection from the moment their eyes met.

Lin Yi Yang fell in love with Yin Guo at first sight. Later, he tried to find a way to meet her again. Thus, it led to many opportunities for them to get to know each other. As he got to know Yin Guo, Lin Yi Yang liked her more and more.

Yin Guo also couldn’t deny that she was attracted to Lin Yi Yang, who was handsome and calm. As they grew closer, Yin Guo learned that Lin Yi Yang was a genius snooker player who had left the professional world years ago.

Yin Guo’s passion for the sport reignited Lin Yi Yang’s dream. This time, however, he was doing it not just for himself, but for their future. Li Yi Yang began his journey in the professional snooker world and slowly gained a reputation. However, walking down the same path as before would force him to confront his past once again.

I have been following this drama for a while now. But it took me a long time to write this review because I ran out of ideas on how to describe this fluffy drama. I have to check the thesaurus site over and over again because I keep using the same word to describe this drama. Can you guess which one? 😁

First of all, I choose Amidst a Snowstorm of Love because none other than Leo Wu. His good looks and his top-notch acting were enough reasons for me to choose his drama, and I am sure that I am not the only one. I am sure that you feel the same way and you are finding your way here to get a second opinion on whether you should watch this drama or not. Well, I cannot blame you. Leo Wu’s physical appeal is undeniable.

I chose this drama because it is an adaptation of Mo Bao Fei Bao’s romantic novel, During the Snowstorm. The author’s works have been adapted into several famous dramas, including Go Go Squid 2: Dt. Appledog’s Time, Road Home drama, and Love Me, Love My Voice.

Mo Bao Fei Bao is also a talented screenwriter, having written scripts for Scarlet Heart, My Sunshine, The Flame’s Daughter, Go Go Squid!, and One and Only. I have read many of her novels (in English translation) and each one has its own charm.

The pacing of Amidst a Snowstorm of Love felt a tad too slow, although Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo’s relationship progressed quite quickly. Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo shared their first kiss in the 9th episode, which is considered quick according to the Cdrama timeline. Very often I have to wait until the drama reaches the 20th episode to get a quick and stiff kiss.

If you read my reviews, you may notice that I have complained frequently about this. However, this drama is filled with swoon-worthy scenes. As the story progresses, there are many intimate moments between Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo. Although not steamy, it was enough to make me feel envious. LOL

Amidst a Snowstorm of Love is a simple story about how Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo started their relationship, overcame hardships, and faced the past for the sake of their future. This is a feel-good drama that will warm your hearts. The plot has no angsty misunderstandings or crazy jealousies. There are no horrible third parties or toxic environments. The plot was clean and almost normal. However, I felt that this drama lacked something.

Dear readers, please do not blame me. I was completely engrossed in the world of Cdrama, and the intense story had become my staple food. While watching this drama, I was on edge, waiting for a plot twist or a surprise that would turn everything around, but unfortunately (or fortunately?), none of those things happened. The ending of Amidst a Snowstorm of Love was also predictable, given the simplicity of the story. The story had a happy ending for every character except the love rival.

Romance was the main focus, but sport also played an important role. Lin Yi Yang rediscovered his passion and the people who care for him through the sport. Yin Guo helped him face the past by sharing her passion for the sport. After watching this drama, you may feel inspired to look for a billiard club nearby. Even if you don’t know how to play this game. 😉

But I won’t explain the difference between Nine Ball and Snooker here. There are too many technical terms, you can find them on Google yourself.

Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo’s feelings were very strong, and they drove away every contender in their relationship. I am sure you can also feel the strong bond between them from the beginning of the story to the very last episode, which spans several years. Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo showed us how to fall in love and how to stay in love.

Amidst a Snowstorm of Love drama is causing me both a headache and toothache due to its excessive sweetness. First love is a sweet experience. although it involves crazy heartbeats, raging hormones, exploding jealousy, and constant yearning, it’s nothing compared to the magical feeling that lingers every time you see your loved one.

Even if you were only separated for 10 minutes, there was an urge to pick up the phone and call your loved one, just to hear their voice again. Have you ever experienced this? Or maybe you just feel them right now?

This drama pictured those moments perfectly. 😍

This drama was indeed very sweet, although I initially found it too cloying. However, as the story progressed, I began to feel happy while watching it. Whenever Lin Yi Yang gazed intently at Yin Guo, my heart raced. And whenever Yin Guo looked up at him with admiration clearly displayed on her face, a fuzzy warmth spread within my heart. But not everyone felt the same as I did.

Recently, one of my friends had a fight with her boyfriend. She binge-watched this drama to distract herself from her sorrow. The sweetness of Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo, however, did not bring her happiness. Instead, she became very upset and displeased with her boyfriend. I reminded her that this is just a drama. Leo Wu is an excellent artist who can act naturally. Unfortunately, the damage was already done. I hope she is feeling better now.

Leo Wu is a talented actor with extensive experience. He has also expanded his career into directing and producing. I keep his name on my must-watch list of actors not only because he is handsome.

Leo Wu always showed great skill in acting and he always picked a drama with a good script. He has starred in several sports-themed dramas, such as Cross Fire, where he played the role of Lu Xiao Bei, an e-sports athlete, and Nothing but You, where he portrayed Song San Chuan, a badminton player who switched to tennis. Leo Wu looked handsome in both Amidst a Snowstorm of Love and Nothing but You.

However, if you want to see some muscle, you might want to watch Nothing but You. In my opinion, he looked more attractive in that drama…

I have been following Leo Wu’s acting career since his performance in Nirvana in Fire. He did a good job as Fei Liu, a cheeky and loyal teenager who is talented in martial arts but has a problem with socializing. FYI, this drama is considered as one of the best Cdrama of all time.

If you enjoy intricate political dramas, this is the drama for you. If you are still not convinced, you can read my review of Nirvana in Fire here first, but I think Leo Wu really shined in Love Like the Galaxy. He flawlessly portrayed Ling Bu Yi, a cold general who falls for the sassy Cheng Shao Sang. Later, he becomes a complex individual burdened by anger and hatred.

Amidst a Snowstorm of Love is the first drama where Zhao Jin Mai teamed up with Leo Wu. Zhao Jin Mai is a young, promising actress in China. She is only 21 years old, yet she already has an impressive filmography. I recommend watching her drama titled Reset, where she acted alongside Bai Jing Ting. It’s a sci-fi mystery drama about being trapped in a time loop.

Zhao Jin Mai’s acting in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love is very natural and flawless. Whether portraying the nervous and shy Yin Guo when she is falling in love or the confident and formidable Yin Guo at the billiard table. Through her hard work, she brings Yin Guo’s character to life. Kudos to her.

Amidst a Snowstorm of Love also features an impressive supporting cast. For example, Wang Xing Yue (Story of Kunning Palace, Scent of Time, Delicacies Destiny) as the stern Meng Xiao Dong; Chen Jing Ke (Islands) as Jiang Yang; Dong Zi Fan (The Road to Ordinary) as Wu Wei; Han Dong Lin (She and Her Perfect Husband) as Chen An An; Wang Jia Xuan (A Journey to Love, Wrong Carriage, Right Groom, Lost You Forever, When I Fly Towards You, Till the End of The Moon); and Dai Si (I Am Nobody, Double Love, The Flame’s Daughter, Eternal Love: Ten Miles of Peach Blossom ). To create a great drama, we need more than good actors. Great dramas require a great director, an exceptional screenwriter, and a solid production crew. The script for Amidst a Snowstorm of Love was written by Mo Bao Fei Bao herself, and the production was led by two skilled directors, Tien Jen Huang and Yu Bo. Both have worked on many romance dramas. Tien Jen Huang directed the romantic drama Here We Meet Again, and Yu Bo was behind my favorite dramas, A Date With The Future and Novoland: Pearl Eclipse.

Overall on this review, I was satisfied with Amidst a Snowstorm of Love drama and it will definitely be added to my re-watch list. I hope that when I rewatch this drama later, I can still feel my heart racing every time Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo stare at each other.

As Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo said, ‘We will get through the snowstorm,’ and I am confident that we will all get through this drama as well. If we could find another drama sweeter than this one.😉

The Cinematography

Besides the chemistry between Leo Wu and Zhao Jin Mai, Amidst a Snowstorm of Love’s beautiful scenery is the reason why I like this drama. This drama spends quite a sum of money to provide us, viewers, with the very picturesque scenery of Finland, where the shooting took place.

When you start this drama, your eyes will instantly indulge in the snow-covered city of Hel. I presume Hel was an abbreviation for Helsin which is another abbreviation for Helsinki. This scenery reminds me of the first episode of Jing Bo Ran and Tan Song Yung’s Road Home drama back in 2023.

This foreign land scenery offered a different feeling. You could feel a desolate atmosphere through the vast white that covered the whole town. Totally suitable for Li Yi Yang who escaping from the hustle and bustle of cities in China. However, the apartment where Yin Guo is staying gives us a warm feeling. As if it was the only source of warmth in the cold and lonely life of Lin Yi Yang.

The Director also gives us very straight-to-the-point clues about Lin Yi Yang and Yi Guo’s feelings. Both Leo Wu and Zhao Jin Mai have very expressive eyes. Leo Wu also loves to play with his lips corner when he feels amused or sad. And their hand movements also play a big role in this drama. Those close-up shots perfectly captured the essence of the scene and also conveyed what Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo felt at the moment.

TBH, the close-up shots of Leo Wu make my heart beat a little bit faster. It is truly just a little bit. *fingers crossed*

I don’t want to make my husband jealous of Leo Wu. He often reads my writing tho.😀

During the billiard matches, it felt like we were watching a sports station relaying a tournament. During these moments, we could see the up-close faces of Lin Yi Yang, Yin Guo, and other players.

The costumes department needs to be praised too. They were not too flashy or too fancy. Unlike Dylan Wang and Bai Lu’s drama Only For Love where they looked like coming straight from a fashion magazine, Leo Wu and Zhao Jin Mai’s costumes were more casual and down to earth.

Well, not until Leo Wu stepped out of the bedroom wearing a Loe*e white t-shirt. He is the ambassador of the brand, so of course this drama is a good chance to promote it. And I had to say, seeing him, even in a simple white tee like that would make me lose my breath.

Again, it was only for a little bit short of breath. Not much… *finger crossed*

The Characters

Lin Yi Yang (played by Leo Wu)

Lin Yi Yang was born a snooker genius. He began playing at a young age and quickly rose to prominence by the age of 13. However, Lin Yi Yang’s strong sense of pride often got in the way. During an incident with a referee, he got into a heated argument with his coach and left the club. Lin Yi Yang never stepped into the world of professional snooker ever since.

However, he still plays the game, but he never watches a live match. Lin Yi Yang’s bond with the billiard world never faded. While in Hel, he managed a billiard room in a small hotel. Therefore, it was not surprising that when he returned to Dongxin City, he could immediately take over the club. Besides, Lin Yi Yang was not only a talented player, but also a skilled coach.

After graduating, Lin Yi Yang went to Hel to pursue his postgraduate studies. When he met Yin Guo, he was 27 years old. Despite their six-year age gap, Lin Yi Yang could not escape Yin Guo’s charm. He fell in love with her at first sight.

Although he appears serious and reserved, Lin Yi Yang is a very affectionate and determined person. He is also sensitive, attentive, and romantic. Before he met Yin Guo, Lin Yi Yang was never interested in any woman. Although some pursued him, they never succeeded.

Lin Yi Yang is an orphan. After his parents died in a car accident, Lin Yi Yang and his younger brother were left alone. Although his brother was later adopted, they remained close. Lin Yi Yang grew up in difficult circumstances, but he is a hardworking individual who is skilled at managing money. Despite appearing to be a poor student who works many part-time jobs, his bank account is bigger than Yin Guo’s, who earns money through competition.

Yin Guo (played by Zhao Jin Mai)

Yin Guo is a talented Nine-ball athlete. She has a lively and cute personality, sometimes seeming shy and childish. However, she also displayed a mature and considerate side towards Lin Yi Yang’s situation. Her determination and confidence are her most noticeable traits. On the field, she demonstrates highly skilled emotional control. It contrasted with her nervousness when Lin Yi Yang confessed to her. Either way, she was pretty cute.

I love the moment in episode 13 when Yin Guo looked at Lin Yi Yang and then said, “Lin Yi Yang, you’ve gotten here (the professional world) many years earlier than me. But from now on, I’ll share all my glory with you. You’ll enjoy the applause just like I do.” I am sure Lin Yi Yang was moved because of these words. But probably, he decided to return to the professional world after she said “The winner becomes the King. I’m the King today. So, you’re the Queen”.

Now I am sure Lin Yi Yang did not want to be the Queen.😂😂

Yin Guo’s first love is Lin Yi Yang. When he confessed to her, Yin Guo had to seek help from her best friend on how to answer his question, which shows how lack of experience she had in love.

Meng Xiao Dong (played by Wang Xing Yue)

Meng Xiao Dong is a very protective brother to Yin Guo and a scary brother to Meng Xiao Tian. When he first came to Hel, Yin Guo, and Meng Xiao Tian were afraid to see his stern face. Just like naughty students who were caught by the teacher when they read comics in the classroom.

Meng Xiao Dong is a world champion. His passion for this sport could be seen in his appearance. During a tournament, a billiard athlete must dress up according to the dress code. And Meng Xiao Dong abides by the rule by always dressing up immaculately. He also maintained a serious attitude at all times and only showed his friendly side to those close to him.

Meng Xiao Dong considered Lin Yi Yang his rival and had been eagerly anticipating his return to the game. When Meng Xiao Dong learned that Lin Yi Yang was in Hel, he flew from China for him. By threatening him with Yin Guo, Meng Xiao Dong finally got the chance to play snooker with Lin Yi Yang.

In order to get Lin Yi Yang back into the game, Meng Xiao Dong coaxed Yin Guo to persuade Lin Yi Yang. In return, he promised to help Yin Guo convince her parents to accept Lin Yi Yang.

Meng Xiao Dong, you are quite a cunning person.😆

Nevertheless, no matter what he did, Meng Xiao Dong really cared about Yin Guo and Lin Yi Yang. He wanted the best for them. Indeed, he had a kind heart.

Meng Xiao Dong, a top-ranked athlete and leader of a billiard club, had bad luck in love. His relationship with Lin Lin was always rocky. Whenever he was with her, Meng Xiao Dong became a nervous teenager. It seemed that this anxiety was a family trait. Still, Meng Xiao Dong tried his best to win her back.

Jiang Yang (played by Chen Jing Ke)

Jiang Yang is older than Lin Yi Yang and Meng Xiao Dong. He is very close to Lin Yi Yang and treats him like his brother. They both came from the same billiard club in Dongxin City and trained under the supervision of Coach He.

Later, Jiang Yang worked there to manage the club. Although he is not a snooker genius, Jiang Yang is a very dedicated and hardworking man. His love and passion for the sport were evident. He is the pillar that everyone in Dongxin City needs.

Just like Meng Xiao Dong, Jiang Yang always waited for Lin Yi Yang to make a comeback. He knew how much talent would be wasted if Lin Yi Yang never returned. Jiang Yang had a good sibling relationship with Lin Lin. However, it always made Meng Xiao Dong who likes Lin Lin jealous for no reason.

He Wen Feng (played by Li Jian Yi)

He Wen Feng was Lin Yi Yang’s coach in Dongxin City. For Lin Yi Yang, He Wen Feng was more than a master; he regarded him as a parent. He took care of him not because of Lin Yi Yang’s talent, but because He Wen Feng pitied him and cared for his well-being. He was a strict coach, which caused them to separate on bad terms.

The Conclusion

Amidst a Snowstorm of Love is a drama that can evoke different emotions depending on your current situation. If you are feeling happy and content, you will enjoy the sweet romance portrayed in the show. However, if you are going through a tough time in your relationship, be cautious while watching.

Lin Yi Yang and Yin Guo had a strong and devoted relationship that seemed surreal. Their love may make you wish your own significant other was like them. However, keep in mind that this is a drama that was created to satisfy your hunger for a smooth and beautiful relationship. In real life, unfortunately, this rarely happens. So, take it with a grain of salt.

However, Amidst a Snowstorm of Love is great for your daily dose of entertainment. It could be a good bedtime story. The story was light and no unnecessary drama or villainous people. It is surely would give you a sweet dream (full of Leo Wu).
